CIA taught me these— the lesson of the 3 lives: the private life, the public life, the secret life. I teach them in this book. We're all putting so much energy and resources into this public persona, this public life that isn't really us, but is what we feel like we have to be. And when your public life collides with my public life, it's just us pretending to have strengths that we don't have. How are we ever going to connect over that? It's like 2 Turtles trying to cuddle. Their shells keep their bodies from touching. We have to get rid of the shell if we're ever going to actually have that connection.
