Excerpt from a YouTube video in which Chris Collins describes a recurring problem: car dealers decline to send most of their staff to manufacturer training. Collins argues the solution is to mandate training, while acknowledging dealer resistance and concerns about participation being perfunctory.
The dealers aren't required to do training. And I go, well, sometimes they are. And he goes, but for the most part, even if they are, they only send, like, two or three salespeople, but they have 12. And then he goes, and I go out and try to meet these dealers and understand. But they're they're second, third generation, and they're just, like, super aggressive with me and tell me all the things that we're doing wrong as a manufacturer. But they have no interest in training. And so I'm developing this training that I think would be very effective, but I can't get the dealers to send their people to the training. What do I do? And I said, you got to mandate it. And he's like, yeah, but if you mandate it, then they're not really. They're only doing it.
