A weekend seminar on Rich Dad Poor Dad philosophy introduced the speaker to rent-to-own deals. He and his partner executed 51 of these lease-option transactions over ten years, using the strategy to build their real estate investing career and leave Ottawa.

What launched us in real estate investing was a weekend seminar by Rich Dad Poor Dad. The trainer, if I can call him that, really was sold on rent-to-own or lease option. He talked about it a lot. And by the time I was finished with the weekend seminar on Sunday, A, we had decided that that was our ticket to leave Ottawa, and B, rent-to-own was going to be the strategy. So over the next 10 years, we did 51 of those deals.
