How to Formulate an ACTION PLAN to Achieve Your GOALS

Chris Prefontaine breaks down turning goals into action plans: define your exact outcome, know your why, brainstorm every possible step without filtering, assign tasks to specific people, and execute immediately. He uses real examples like eviction procedures and delegation to Sue to show how massive action prevents problems from festering.

It's a small but very applicable thing. Exact outcome you're looking for with your tenant buyer that wasn't paying— I'm going to use that as an example because yesterday when you hit me, I'm like, why wasn't that done? The exact outcome you're looking to do is you're looking to get 100% tuned into getting an eviction started, right? Set the precedent with them so then in the future they pay. That's all this is with tenant buyers. They're paying their bills, they're buying alcohol and ice cream and whatever, they're not paying you because you're not up their ass. Okay, so the exact outcome— what do you need to do? You need to stay on, you need to learn the eviction laws in your market. You should have already. Then you need to know what day can I send the letter out, day 5 or 10, and then when can I send it to an attorney. You need to just know the process, right? Um, guys, this was, this was brought on by Rusty saying yesterday, oh, I just didn't find an attorney to send the letter. I went, well, just, just do it. Like, get after it. We're sitting on the 27th of the month. Massive action plan. Gotta get after it. That's a small example, but you can do this with any one of your goals. Like, um, a script. What's all come looking for? I'm gonna master this one script. Okay. So step 2, why? So when things get shitty, you have a why in there. Why are you looking to do that? Well, your why is easy. If they don't pay me, I'm gonna have to pay this. Like, I'm all screwed up. That's a pretty strong why. So then this is the piece. This is what Zach and I did. Yeah. Uh, 2 days ago before you guys came in and we had some changes already and we talked to these guys cuz we took massive action. We said, Now, how can we get that? Now, ours was much bigger. Ours was like 3 departments in the company, but it was, okay, how? And you list as many things as you think you need to do to get that accomplished, whatever that is. I coincidentally have that shirt on. It has nothing to do with it. What do you have to do to do that? And you list them all and you don't try to prejudge them. And then you figure out who's gonna help you do that. Does that make sense? Like on everything, these 3 things. So the example that you said, i.e., make sure contractor does— Well, yeah.
So instead of Rusty's, let me give you the example I thought of this morning.
I say to— I'll say, let's just use Sue because she does this for us. Hey Sue, make sure that XYZ gets done at this house. We have 2 closings. They just sold 2 houses. Make sure these 3 things get done. If I check back and I wrote not leave a message and she says— I say, is it done? That's the outcome we wanted. And she said, yeah, no, I left a message though. I don't want you to leave a message. I want you to figure out how to get that done, whatever you got to do. There's nothing in between I want to hear about. That's what I mean by the exact outcome you're looking for and result. By the way, Tony Robbins does this before every meeting because this came from his son. He says, if it's a— hey, all right guys, once y'all come over on a meeting, okay, how long is it gonna take us? Great. Why do we need this done? All right, let's brainstorm right now how many things we can do to get that done. That's how he operates. And you wonder why he's so freaking efficient with 60-something businesses around the world. So this formula works. It works very well. We do it internally. I'll leave that one up because I erased the other one. Does this make sense, you guys? Like, so simple but so effective. Yes, no, maybe? Yes.
Yeah.
I'll leave it up. Can you guys see? Have you heard enough?
Yes. Yep.
The inspector at our property. No, it's all good. Today is something we— I said, you know, I just did this on one with the company item, so Um, Rusty, I meant that literally too with you guys. That's what— that is what you should do. And you guys don't let anything fester. Just massive action on it. Okay?
Yeah. And I'm sure you hit this, but that just goes along with clarity, right?
That's exactly what it's about, right?
The whole thing. Yep. If you got a problem, uh, here's, here's something that I— it took me a long time to realize. You can't solve a problem in the same mindset that the challenge pops up in. Right? So we always want to immediately solve a problem. Problem hits us, we react, we then try to solve the problem. But the reality is we can't solve that problem in the same mindset. So we got to step away from that. So if you automatically— let's say again, just using Rusty's— Rusty's dealing with frustration with a tenant buyer, immediately tries to solve the problem, more than likely is not going to end up solving that problem. Instead, take a step back, review, go through this process that Chris just went through, then take action. Get clear first.
And what that'll do in Rusty's case is the next tenant buyer that comes up, you go, I know exactly what I'm doing. 5 days, boom. 10 days, boom. And it goes away. I'm telling you, it goes away because you took action. They're gonna pull every string if you don't do it. They're gonna pull your strings and they're gonna be frustrated.
