Mastering Success: Learn, Innovate, and Break the Rules

A coach tells his 140-member Slack group that successful leaders say "I am clear." He breaks this into three steps: learn the rules, study the masters like Brett Gilliland and Nick, then break them to innovate. Clarity matters most on sales calls, where ambiguity kills trust.

You know, every week, just about every week, we post in our community, our Wicked Smart community, in the private Slack group that has all associates of 90 Day Jumpstarters. There's probably, I don't know, 140 people in there or something. Every Monday, we post what's called the Monday rant. It's myself, or it's one of the coaches, or Zach, or Nick, and it's based on— it could be a rant about something we noticed in the community that week, or a coaching moment that we thought was important, or a learning lesson. Or it could be a market update. Once in a while we'll do that because all the craziness in the market this particular week, because it was approaching year end, doesn't matter when you're watching this; it'll be super, super appropriate either way for you. So enjoy this mini rant that our community received one particular Monday morning, and let's make sure if nothing else you're getting yourself registered for the Wicked Smart Summit because this year it's in Boston. It's easy to get to. You get off the plane and you have a T stop or two to the to. It's a brand new professional event space venue and we are going to bring it for 2 days. wickedsmartsummit.com. See you there. I just thought it'd be really cool to today talk about for year-end and for your planning, sort of— I went back to my notes for some old High 6 Masterminds and I pulled the 3 most important words, words of leaders and highly successful people. So now listen closely because I want you guys to be able to position yourself to do a really good reply that's super clear. The 3 most important words of highly successful people and hugely successful leaders are, I am clear. I am clear. And I wrote down when I looked at my journal this morning, I wrote down in it, you can't boil the ocean. Think about it. Sometimes we're so scattered and we try to do so many things at once. I catch it on the calls. I catch it on the business plans. I catch it so many places. So, I invite you to write down these 3 things and then I'm going to tell you what to do for a sort of a call to action here. 1, learn the rules. What do I mean by that? What are the rules? What's the protocol for you to go on the path you want to go on? So, for example, our company went from $1 million to $3 million, and that's one set of rules. And now it's striving for the sort of the $3 to $10 million, and we're in the sort of the lower quadrant of that. There's a whole new set of rules. So, learn the rules. Luckily for you, you're in the community and the rules are pretty outlined. Okay? Number 2, study the masters, right? And again, lucky for you, you have masters in our community. Now, for me, just to give you an example, I have Brett Gilliland, who started and runs and is the CEO and founder of Elite. We have the Elite community like you have our community. Study the masters. Nick. Okay, let's talk about Nick for a second. Nick said, okay, I want to do this type of work for my speaking, and if I want to do that, then I need to reach out to a master. And he did that, and he paid someone $75,000 to coach him, and he's still with her. So what is it for you? You have the people and the resources right in the community. So one, learn the rules. Number 2, study the masses. And number 3, break the rules, right? Go beyond the norm. So people say to us, okay, well, if you do A, B, and C, you should be able to move your company from the $4 million to $5 million mark. And we go, okay, well, how can we do it much better, much faster, much bigger, right? And then not as another thing, but for these 3 things, execute all of this with accountability. So I was talking to the 2 new High 6s. They unfortunately won't see this, and they're going to be coming in the community this week. And I said, look guys, everyone asks, well, what happens if I don't do it quickly? Or what happens if I don't do a deal? And I say, look, if you execute everything with accountability, everything with accountability, you can't screw up. unless you quit the accountability. Because if you tell your coach, here's what I wanna do this year, here's what I wanna do this quarter, this month, this week, today to get me to my goal, and you give them permission to hold you accountable so you're executing with accountability, you can't screw up unless you quit. Literally, okay? Now, before I give you a call to action, and this is a longer one, sorry guys, thanks for your patience. Just like I started by saying the 3 most important words of highly successful people are, I am clear. Please understand, I'm gonna switch to the field now with your sellers. Please understand that people trust clarity too. So if you're talking to a seller and you're not clear and you're not confident and you're fumbling, bumbling a little bit because you didn't practice your scripts, please understand that they absolutely distrust ambiguity. So just like clarity will help you with your business plan, clarity on the phone Will help you with sellers. How do you get clear with sellers? You learn the rules that you have to learn the scripts. You study the masters. You role play, and then you break the rules and study harder. I just gave you one little niche within your set of rules on how to get better and better and better. All right. All right. So call to action here: reply with this. If you were going to only be able to do one thing in 24, one thing. Brett has done this with me many times. If you only could do one thing in your business in '24, like you have 10, 12 priorities and you go, okay, but if I only could do one with super clarity that would move the needle the most, what would it be? So reply with, I am super clear about this one thing, and put the one thing there. What's the one thing in '24 that's gonna move the needle? Now, For you, it could be doing something, or it could be for you, stop doing something. I don't know the answer, but I encourage you to reply with that. Make it a great day, guys. Thank you.
