In this Motivational Monday monologue, seasoned real‑estate coach Chris Prefontaine emphasizes that no external force will rescue you or make the critical decisions needed to build your business or improve your finances. Drawing on 35 years of industry experience, he outlines the resources available in his community—coaches, strategies, tools, and a strong market—but stresses that execution ultimately rests on the individual. He deconstructs common excuses (busy schedules, economic uncertainty, family issues) and argues that while these obstacles exist, they should not dictate one’s future. Prefontaine explains the limited role of a coach: providing strategy, structure, and accountability, but never the desire or the final action. He warns against the “someday” mindset, labeling it a dangerous, non‑existent calendar entry that stalls progress. The talk culminates in a call to immediate, concrete action—making one call, having one conversation, or making one decision right after the video—to reclaim control and move forward, with the community’s support as a catalyst.

Okay, here's something nobody likes hearing, right? I like to pick these topics for my Motivational Mondays. Nobody's coming. Nobody's coming to make your calls, right? Nobody's coming to fix your financial situation. Nobody's coming to force you to build the business that you've been talking about building. I feel like this was me I'm talking about back in the 2008 crash. Nobody's coming to like hand you the ideal lifestyle that you'd like to deep down design. See, you can have the best coach, you can have the best strategy, you can have the best tools, you can have the best market. I think all those are what we have right now, by the way, in our community. In fact, what I just described is exactly what you've got now if you're in our community. Best coaches, over 110 years of experience, by far the best strategies that exist, and amazing tools. And oh, by the way, the market's never been better for our strategies. Not in my 35 years in the business has not been better. Those are some pretty powerful statements. But eventually you personally have to execute. So let's just rip this apart a little bit. Happy Motivational Monday again. This one's about personal responsibility, right? Because before somebody takes that in any negative fashion whatsoever, let me explain. I think personal responsibility is one of the most empowering things you can understand. If somebody else is responsible for where you're going, you're actually stuck, right? Waiting for someone always, always, always, always. But if you have responsibility, now you have control. Doesn't mean it'll be easy, but you have control. Reality is Every single one of us could create a pretty good list of reasons why something's going to be too hard, too difficult. Like, oh, we're busy, the economy's uncertain. I say a lot about these in my Motivation Mondays. Family stuff going on, challenges, business demanding, we're tired, the training isn't perfect, they gotta fix this for us, money's tight, we've been burned before, whatever. Where'd I get these? I hear them from people. All the time, and some of those things are real for you. I get it. Some of them were real for me. I'm not dismissing them, but here's the key question: Are they going to dictate your future? That's the real question. They're there; they're always going to be there, and that's quite different to think of it that way. And in over 35 years in real estate, I've never experienced this magical, cool period where somebody said, "Hey Chris, guess what?" Everything is perfectly lined up now. You're all set. You can go at it. You have no family issues. You're not going to have any. You have no financial pressures. You have no business problems. The economy is perfect, by the way. And I'm completely confident. Oh wow, this feels great, right? Now I can go build something. No, of course not. Of course not. It doesn't happen. So life is happening all around you, right, while you're building. That's just the deal. You got to learn how to compartmentalize it. And what's interesting is this applies to coaching too. See, a coach can give you the strategy. That's what we do. A coach can help you structure the deal. It's what we do. A coach can, in our case, even make the calls to your seller with you. It's what we do for the associates. That doesn't happen in most companies, by the way. It's just what we do. It's our normal. A coach can also tell you exactly what they would do next. Hey, if I were you, here's where I'd go. But a coach cannot want it for you. That's your job. Now don't get me wrong. We do and we can constantly pull and push and encourage and correct you and we can help hold you accountable with your permission. But eventually you're the one picking up the phone, right? And there's— I think I might have said this on a Motivational Monday or 2 ago— there's a dangerous and a costly word that can cripple you. And be careful with this if you catch yourself. Ready? The word's simple. It's someday. I actually did a rant to our community. I do it every Monday with something, and this was similar to what I did recently. It's like that someday word. Someday I'll leave my job. Someday I'll build a portfolio. Someday I'm going to get serious. Someday I'll make more time for my family. Someday I'll fix my finances. Someday is dangerous because it sounds on the surface responsible. Sounds like a plan. Someday, like, that's my plan after this. It's not. Did you know that someday, by the way, is not on the calendar? Not the last time I checked. So gut check here. Where in your life are you waiting to be rescued? And maybe that's an uncomfortable question for you, but that's actually good. Where are you waiting for somebody else to make a decision that you need to make? So, so let's get specific. Where are you saying perhaps When this happens, right, you fill in the blank, then I'll go blank, right? And what could you do today, not 6 months from now, I'm saying when this video ends, today, that puts you back in control? Like, is it one call, one conversation, one decision? Whatever it is, do that. And you, of course, don't control everything that happens around you. Remember I said it's going to be going on around you? None of us do. Just be okay with that. I think part of it is you getting it. That's okay. But you have a heck of a lot more control over your response to what's happening all around you as you operate than most people want to admit. And that's actually super cool news because what it means is you don't need permission, right? You don't need the perfect environment. You definitely don't— certainly don't need somebody coming to save you, which is how I started this Motivation Monday. So make the decision, take the responsibility, and for goodness' sakes, just move forward. And let us help you do that. Let's get after it.
