Real Estate Time Management That Actually Works

Chris Prefontaine coaches real estate agents on time management: focus new agents on outbound calls, commit 10-15 hours weekly for momentum, use accountability partners like Jarek Robbins and Brett, and calendar every task instead of a to-do list. Limit weekly focus to one or three high-impact actions.

Chris, we also have a question just to discuss a little bit about scheduling and organization. So scheduling, organization, generally speaking? Yes, please. I'll share some things and you guys tell me if it's hitting what you want me to hit. When you're new, we're gonna talk about this tomorrow, right? But when you're new, or newer, or you're resetting right now, the only thing you should be doing is Outgoing calls, either call 1s, or if you, you can afford a VA, then you'll be doing the call 2s. But that's the only thing you should be doing. That's it. In my ideal world, somebody throw hours per week at me on what you have to work on. Whoever asked that question, can you share how many hours per week you have? 15. Who else? Whoever asked that question, how many hours per week? Marilena? It's a complicated answer. So 15, who else? Another 8? 10. 10. 10's pretty common. 10 to 15 is pretty common. I would rather have you do some work consistent. I'm going to talk general now, consistently versus I'm going to work every Saturday for 10 hours because what you do today is easier tomorrow because you did it today. Does that make sense? Like momentum. Ideally, if you can do it every week, per week is what they just said. I'm just using their numbers. That's a lot, by the way. Some people ask me, well, can I do that? Is that okay to do that part-time? Almost every single person that's come to the community comes in super part-time, super busy already, and they're trying to figure out how to get out of that mess. So 10 or 15 is a lot of hours. The stats, good, solid. I'd love to see you do that if it's 4 days in a row or whatever you can manage, but as much consistency as you can. Okay, that's number one. Number 2, the accountability when you have a J-O-B with your coach or someone, You're not going to be an associate. Do it with someone, someone that understands your goals. The accountability is huge. You might think it's little, but the fact that Annette or Abby, they can comment if they have a comment on this, or Rick or any one of the people that report to me, the fact that they got to report provokes more activity. Fact. I have a coach. I've had several coaches, but I had Jarek Robbins, Tony Robbins' son. I had him during COVID And man, I just kind of knew he's connected to Tony. I was like, Just calling him nightly to give activities and things that we talked about made me do something more that day. Accountability works magic. So schedule accountability to hold you accountable for that. And personally, I think it should be everything you do, especially in real estate, especially if you're juggling 2 things, should be in your calendar, not a to-do list. Just— that's just me. If I looked at your calendar, in other words, would it show me that you're moving closer to your goals? by your activities. So what do I mention this morning? What I said is, what you're doing getting you closer if you examined it? Because I found that personally when I made my to-do list and we use Asana as a company, but I made that and it just kept getting rolled over, rolled over, rolled over, rolled over. I stuck up my calendar, made that the thing I'm going to do. It got done. Not sure where to get started? Go to smartrealestatecoach.com/getgoing for free books, strategy calls, and a whole bunch more. We're going to help you get going the wicked smart way. We've been after this for over over a decade doing exactly that. So here's what Brett used to say to me, my other coach. He'd say, all right, Chris, you're the CEO of your company, owner of your company. You can only do 3 things this week. What are they? I'd like him and hot. Then I go, okay, if you can only do one, what is it? It's not easy if you think about it. That's how you got to prioritize your calendar. Everything else you can fill in.
