Time Management Tips: How Do You SPEND Your Time?

Chris Prefontaine leads a group coaching session on time allocation, arguing that success depends on how you spend your fixed 24 hours. Participants track their activities in 15-minute blocks Monday through Friday to see where time actually goes, then submit for review. The session uses examples like Oprah and Warren Buffett to show that everyone has the same hours, but outcomes differ based on how much time goes to a W-2 job versus personal goals.

What I'd love to hear, because it's only a minute, is sort of your biggest takeaway from it, like, it's clear and concise, and any action items from it.
If you only have 24 hours in a day, your success is dependent upon how you use the 24. You gotta hear me. People talk about Oprah Winfrey, you know, Ted Turner, Warren Buffett. Listen to me. I don't care how much money you make, you only get 24 hours in a day. And the difference between Oprah and the person That's broke is Oprah uses her 24 hours wisely. That's it. Listen to me, that's it. You get 24. I don't care if you broke, you grew up broke. I don't care if you grew up rich. I don't care if you're in college, you're not in college. You only get 24 hours. And I blew up, literally. I went from being a high school dropout to selling 6,000 books in less than 6 months. What happened? My 24 hours. I was like, okay, Eric, you got to get a grip on your 24 hours because you're about to be broke for the rest of your life. And that's all I need you to do for me. I can tell you all about your life if you just write down your 24-hour schedule for me and you let me look at it. I can tell you where you're going to be in 5 years. I can tell you where you're going to be in 10 years. I can tell you where you're going to be in 20 years if you keep that schedule.
Again, I thought quite appropriate for a lot of reasons. I'd like to hear, because we're not doing positive focus, Uh, what struck you there? And then I have some thoughts, but I don't want to bias it. Anyone? Urgency.
Yeah. And for me, like, the biggest takeaway is we all have the same time. How we spend it is different. And my action items are like, I have to contain my W-2 if I'm going to get to where I want to be.
Yep. Who else? Every day counts. I could just parrot what Judy said.
Steve?
I feel like, I feel like I'm wasting time at my W-2 sometimes. That, that's what that made me think of. It's like, I got this many hours, why am I spending 8 of them here? Nobody disagree there. Um, that it doesn't happen overnight. It's the small little things that you do within your 24 hours that add up over time and, and create Yeah, what comes to mind there is, um, again, year-end stuff. So let's, let's hit it quick. That is, uh, some of these habits we do every day, uh, just not going anywhere. So some of this is what we're going to stop doing, not pile more shit on, right, Ken? He, he implied that, um, if you don't change your 24 hours, he can predict very easily where you're going to be in 5, 10, 20 years. So that The importance of the content and the breakdown of the 24 hours and the consistency. Okay, so that begs— good point— that begs this one. Uh, raise your hand please, uh, your real hand so we don't get messed up with the questions. Um, if you have not done the self-time tracker in the last 6 months. Yes, I've not.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, well, there's a test. There's a little gut check for you because the coaches will help you. I will help you. All you got to do is submit it. And for those of you that might be new, it's you honestly tracking from Monday through Friday, every 15 minutes of your day. You can do a half hour, but you got to be disciplined. It can't be more than that, where you stop and you write it down. Or if you need to go on the computer, however you want to log it, but you stop and write down what you did and you're honest with yourself and let your coach look at that. Okay, that's what that is. Well, let's take a few more. Janice? It's the only level playing field that we have in life, the 24 hours.
Interesting. For everyone.
Yep. David? Yeah, I got consistency, like Ken talked about. Keeping consistent, you can track where you want to go in future time. Rick, thanks for jumping on so quick. I take it they didn't do their homework. I will post the video we just played for those of you who just jumped on in the— maybe in the community channel. But I'll post that. I think it's a good reminder for everybody. I'll do that later on today. Sandra.
Time is precious.
Use it wisely. There's no wrong comment here, guys. I just want to make sure that, like, you're tuned in for next year, really. That's all the purpose of that was. Did that help you get in the right track or right mode?
Yeah.
To reset and set a positive focus? Okay, uh, Science of Getting Rich. I posted in the High 6 channel whether you do the audio or the, uh— I actually— the audio I think is a whole like seminar overview, so you might want the audio.
Hey, um, can I, can I just mention about that tracker that, um, you had had me do that? And that was probably one of the hardest things that I've had to do because you have to stop and keep going, you know, writing it down. But it was so like, it made me so self-aware of how much I really let like my W-2 infringe on my own personal time, my family time, you know, how much time I'm spending, you know, caring for my parents and things like that. It was so challenging, but yet it really made me aware of what my struggles are. And You know, a lot of that impacts my ability to do my follow-up calls, which impacts my results negatively and has.
Are there any questions on that tracker so I don't just leave it on the table and someone's newer going, what are you talking about? Is everybody good with that? If you have a question, gel. This is open forum. Is that in Arc? I haven't seen that yet. No, we didn't put anything formal. Um, you can literally— I use a legal pad and I just If I start at 7:30 for my coach Brett, I write on the pad 8, 8:30, 9, 9:10. I set up my day and I do it each morning like that and I write it down. If you want to use— there's some online trackers if you're big on that. You can find daily trackers there or you can throw an Excel or Word. I don't care. It doesn't matter. As long as I can or the coaches can read your writing, I don't care if it's handwritten either.
