What do eggs, carrots, and coffee beans have to do with real estate investing?

Real estate investors face three choices when challenged: harden like an egg and quit, soften like a carrot and get pushed around, or transform like a coffee bean and change the game. The coffee bean path means solving problems, offering creative financing, and creating wins for buyers, sellers, and yourself.
Chapters
There are 3 things that happen to real estate investors when they start their real estate business, and it even happens over time if you're a seasoned real estate investor as well. But only one of those 3 things leads to success. See, we've been seeing this happen with students and real estate investors for many years now, but it wasn't until we stumbled across the book The Coffee Bean by John Gordon and Damon West. See, I'm not going to explain the entire book, but I'm going to give you some context from that book first, and then I'm going to relate it to the real estate investors and how we've seen this play out. Because my goal for you by watching this video is you're going to end up along that one path to success. See, Damon West explains that he made a bad decision in life and he ends up going to prison and And he meets this mentor of his that explains how to handle prison. And when— so when we look at how he ends up handling prison, it's the same way of entering into a business of real estate investing. Real estate investing is not easy. It can be very simple and you can be very successful in it as long as you end up being this one path. So in the Coffee Bean, the mentor explains, hey, look, uh, Damon, when you go to prison, there's gonna be one of 3 things that happen to you. He said, think of prison as a boiling pot of water. When you have a boiling pot of water, when you go ahead and you add an egg to that boiling pot of water, it gets hard. See, when you go ahead and you go into prison, you are put in an environment of boiling hot water. So if you turn into an egg, you become hard. Now, when you're hard, it's, it's hard for people to love you. You shut down, you put a shell over you where you no longer can accept joy. So coming from a real estate investment space, when you first jump into this business and you start making phone calls to sellers and you try to start creating deals, things can get hard when you consistently are getting nos, when you're consistently having the door slammed in your face, when you're getting to the finish line and aren't able to close a deal. I've seen too many real estate investors get to this space and then completely shut off and then walk away and quit. See, becoming hard in the real estate space means that you get extremely frustrated to a point where you can no longer be coachable and you can no longer find joy in the real estate investing in itself. Building deals and creating deals and helping both buyers and sellers through real estate creates joy. And if you're unable to create that joy, then there's no reason for you to be a part of this real estate investment industry. So I'm encouraging when you jump into the boiling hot water of real estate investing, don't become hard. It's really easy to do so. The mentor now says, let's not have you become a carrot. Because when you place a carrot into boiling hot water, it becomes soft. And if it becomes soft, then you're going to get pushed around the entire time that you're in prison and you're not going to survive. See, it's very similar in the real estate investment space where it can be very competitive and you are working with buyers and sellers that this may be the biggest asset that they ever have and they become very protective. So while you're going through these conversations and working with sellers and buyers, it's really important that you're able to be confident and hold your position, but also be able to negotiate on these deals in order to create a great real estate investment deal as well. I see it too often, and that is that real estate investors feel as though they need to beg for the real estate property. They need to beg to have these types of deals be created because it's creative financing. But you are Simon Cowell. You are not on stage at American Idol. You are the buyer. If you can solve the challenge of the seller, then the seller will be more than willing and able to be able to create a creative financing deal that can become very successful for both parties involved. You have so much value that you bring to this world by being in the creative financing niche, being in real estate. You help out so many people. So let me encourage you, don't become soft. Hold your position and know that you bring tons of value. See, the third, and the way in which to become successful in the real estate space, is becoming the coffee bean. So back to the story. Damon West's mentor says, hey Damon, do you know what happens when you place a coffee bean in boiling hot water? And he paused and said, I'm not sure. And this is where everything hits. The mentor then says, it's no longer water, it's coffee. Being a coffee bean is about changing the environment around you. It's about being a problem solver. It's about providing solutions to people. You know, when you meet a coffee bean. And being a coffee bean is not something that is inherited. It's not something you're born with. I believe that it's something that you grow into. Being a coffee bean means in the real estate space to when you walk into an environment, you change that environment. In the creative financing space, we see it quite often is when we're communicating with buyers and sellers, they didn't even know that there are options out there that could provide their solution. People are just frustrated with the traditional way of buying and selling real estate. So now when When you provide an entirely different environment, and we no longer just call it real estate, we call it creative financing real estate because the environment has completely changed now. And now you as the real estate investor walk into a space and completely change the perspective of the people around you and provide solutions. See, it's not about being frustrated to a point where you become hard and you don't enjoy real estate investing anymore. It's not about being pushed around and being soft and just accepting the scraps of the real estate deal in which you're willing to accept because you're begging for deals. But it is about walking into a new environment, walking into a new environment and changing the perspective of the buyers and the sellers. Because once you do that, you can now make a dramatic impact on the community around you and there is an additional result that comes with it, which means that you can profit quite well as well. See, I'm lucky enough to be able to be surrounded by coffee beans on a consistent basis with the Wicked Smart community.
