$25k Deal vs. "I need to speak to my partner"

Christian Polk coaches a sales call where a prospect says she needs to talk to her husband about a $25k investment. He reframes the partner objection as a money objection, asks who's responsible for results, and gets her to commit even if her husband says no.

I need to talk to my husband. This is a big investment for sure.
When you say you need to kind of go away and speak to your husband, what's the— I guess what's the purpose of that for yourself?
Now he's asking, hey, what's the purpose of it? But she already said it's the investment, so it's just to talk about the money. So right here it would have been much easier and simpler just to go for the money objection, handle that, and then if the partner is still there, handle the partner.
Just to make sure, I mean, it's our anniversary today actually. Oh wow, congratulations. 18 years on December 18th. So okay, this is a big amount of money. The stuff that I have purchased before.
It's just a money objection. You just need to handle the money. And half the time, if you handle the money, the partner objection goes away.
He actually supports me with everything, but it's just that I just want to— hey, you know, I'm going to be doing this.
Aside from— what's your husband's name, by the way?
Dan. Daniel.
Aside from speaking to Dan, then, is there anything else that's holding you back or that you're uncertain?
No, I mean, I mean, I use my, my home equity line of credit to pay for this.
Again, she's just nervous about the money. So we just handle the money. It's much easier to handle money, generally speaking, than it is to handle partner. If you know what you're doing, it's easy to handle both. I'll probably just go money for this round.
When you go away and have this chat with Dan, what do you think are some of the things that could come up?
Nothing really. I think he will support me. I know that. He's always been so supportive.
Is he as passionate about that entrepreneurial venture and business as you are?
He's not. He's not entrepreneurial like me.
Given how the last sort of 10 years have gone in terms of things that we've pursued and gone down prior, do you think that could potentially tarnish Dan's view on a third venture?
I mean, yes, it would, of course. I mean, And especially with the amount of investment, right? I think if I just help him see the potential, it—
we can do it. Because when it comes to making this happen now, putting the work in, getting the results that we have chatted about, whose responsibility is that going to fall on?
Me.
This is really solid, especially when you're handling a partner objection. You need the person who you're talking to to admit that they're the one who's actually responsible.
And what would you do if Dan said no?
I just know he wouldn't.
I'm not saying you will, but what would you do if you did?
I'll still go for it, I guess.
Why would you still go for it?
Because, because of the outcome. I can see it and I want that result.
Because I suppose there's two paths to go down here. Do you mind if I share a perspective? Can you see how one of those paths does open that door that could potentially hold you back from making that happen and taking on that responsibility? Because in this example, as you say, right, the responsibility is on your shoulders to make this work. You see your vision, you believe in what you can provide for your family. If we allowed Dan, I suppose, and I'm not knocking him saying you will, but if we allow Dan to now have a strong say as to whether we do this or not, can you see how that's almost putting the responsibility also onto his shoulders?
Overall, this isn't bad. Again, it's a money objection really that is masquerading as a partner objection. So a much more straightforward, easy way to do it is tie off money. It seems like she's just a bit fearful about the money. She has to use a home equity line of credit. Just handle her fear about the money and just go ahead and get her to buy. But overall, in terms of the partner objection, What he did really well, stayed super, super calm, which caused her to pull into him. Really solid on that. Couple things he can maybe tighten up, but overall knocked out of the park.
