In this YouTube coaching session, Christian Polk and two other participants dissect a sales call with a self‑identified “sales bro.” The discussion centers on how to maintain frame when an aggressive prospect tries to dominate the conversation, how to structure an opening that establishes clarity and authority, and how subtle body‑language signals—referred to as “bird hands”—affect persuasiveness. The speakers role‑play, critique each other’s language, and highlight the importance of transparent, forward‑focused questioning to uncover the prospect’s true motivation. The session mixes informal banter with concrete phrasing recommendations, illustrating practical tactics for handling high‑energy, alpha‑type sales prospects.
Oh, you're taking frame. This is crazy. This is how to deal with an alpha on a sales call who tries to steal frame. We're not doing that, sweetheart. Okay?
I don't understand why the bird hands, the bird hands, like, like who, who thinks this is persuasive?
Hello.
Just got back from Miami. I went for a sales conference and— all right, so this is my situation.
Oh, you're taking frame. This is crazy.
I've been doing sales probably for like 10, 15 years. Like, I was born and raised in this.
Okay, wait.
This guy sounds like a closeted homosexual. No wonder this stuff works on him.
Wait, I'm going to hold on. I'm going to pause you. I understand that you're a sales bro. I love it. I think it's great. I'm a sales girly. We're salespeople. I just need to get like, get clear first on like what it is that you're here for. How can I support you so I can just—
More the bird hands. I don't know, just my misogyny is just like, it's just raising up.
Know that first.
I'm leading up to my story and I don't mean to like try to take control or like run into it. I just want to know if we could, like, if we could work well together. This is like my dilemma. And again, like, if you have any questions, you can let me know.
Hold on, hold on on that.
Hold on, hold on.
Okay, hold on. Pause. Let's take a breath. I want to get super clear on what your problem is, so I appreciate you coming in hot. I love the energy. I think it's great. But my goal is to hear more about what it is that is going on. We can talk about some solutions throughout the call, and if it feels aligned to work together, we can talk about exactly what that would look like. We'll discuss investment, and if not, I will also clarify that too. So I'll be super forward. I'm a very transparent person. Let's go ahead and dive into it. I just want to know first and foremost what specifically motivated you to book this call with me before you get into like the lay of the land. I just want to understand what the problem is just as a way to make sure that we're utilizing this time as well as we possibly can.
Now, overall, in terms of how she took back over control of the conversation, not too bad. Generally speaking, I'm going to use a little bit of a different frame just because, again, instead of it making it about me, well, what I want to do, I want to get a lay of the land. Honestly, they don't care about you. Now, with some prospects, this will work. But like I was telling one of my clients today, is you want to conduct your sales conversations that will work on an overwhelming majority of your prospects and even the hardest prospects. Because if you get in the bad habit of what will work for like 60% of the time, then 40% of the time you're just going to get your fucking face kicked in because of what you're saying. So use a frame like this. It's like, oh yeah, we'll definitely go over like how everything's structured. Just so you know, we don't have a one-size-fits-all. It's going to be fairly custom just based off of your situation. So the first part of this call is just understanding a little bit more about where you're at and where you're looking to go. And then I can go over the custom game plan from there. Would that help you? Right. Again, it's in their best interest that they answer my questions so they can get a custom game plan rather than what I like to do. They don't care about you. Make it about them. You'll get better reactions. And don't do the bird hands.
