"I'll start next week πποΈ" How a 10k deal gets secured β οΈ

A salesperson tries to close a $10,000 coaching deal with a prospect who keeps saying they'll start later. Christian Polk coaches live, pointing out the seller is talking at the prospect instead of asking questions, and warns that offering a guarantee without owning the offer is risky.

It's going to be a one-time installment of $10K.
Oh my God. Okay. Yeah, I'll probably look into starting like next week.
What do you mean by that specifically?
I mean, I'm probably thinking more of just like mental clarity. Like, I kind of just want to start when I'm ready to start.
Okay.
So just to be super clear, like speaking about the program specifically, like, do youβ
So what he did is he got behind the objection, understood there was a little bit of uncertainty. Now he's getting buy-in on the actual program. So far, so good.
You feel like everything that I presented to you today would work for you?
Oh yeah, 100%.
Okay. So you're confident based off of like everything we went over and the testimonial you've seen that program will work.
Yeah, obviously.
So you like me, you like the program, you're just not sure if you're 100% ready. Is that correct? Yeah. Okay. Do you mind if I coach you for a minute?
Yeah, go for it, bro.
We just spent the last 30 minutes, brother, and you just told me everything that you don't like about your job. And you've been talking about how you've been wanting to build this online coaching business for the last 6 months. And in the last 6 months, you've been posting on social media and it hasn't been working. So it's not a matter of you being ready. Like, you were ready 6 months ago when you started posting on social media. You're just not getting paid for the work that you're already putting in. So Do you want to continue to work for free and continue to do what you've already been doing, or would you rather follow a plan that guarantees results so you can actually start making money from the work that you're already doing?
I mean, your second option sounds a lot better.
Way better, right? Like, what do you think you're going to say to your clients on the phone when they tell you that they're not ready?
That's a good question.
Like, what would you say to a client on the phone?
So far, he's not doing a bad job. He's waving through the actual belief. One of the main issues he's fallen into, he's sermonizing a little bit too much, like he's just talking at the prospect rather than really asking and pulling the questions out of them. Real, real easy example. And he goes, well, what would you tell the person that you're going to be sitting across from? Well, I would tell them to go for it. Well, why would you tell them to go for it? Right. Like, why would you tell them to actually do something you're not doing right now? Get him to justify it. Get him to take more steps in your direction. This way of overcoming objections can work, especially if you are very, very authoritative on calls. But it just takes a lot longer. I'm lazy. Get the actual prospect to do the work for you rather than you just going and going and going. Right.
I know it'll work for me.
It's justβ
yeah. All right, bro. Well, here's what I want to do for you, brother, because I'm 100% confident that this program will work for you, that I'm actually going to put a guarantee on it. And the guarantee is very simple. If you join this coaching program and you do everything that I tell you to do for the next 12 months, you complete the course modules, which is about 20 hours in total, and you show up to one live coaching call per week, or you watch on replay and you don't get the results that we talked about on this call today.
And again, what he's doing there, he's not actually overcoming the objection. He's pulling out a guarantee he can place on top of it. And if you're not the offer owner, you can't do this, right? So overall, again, it's not bad, but a little bit sermonizing and then using a tactic that most salespeople can't do. It would be better if we can actually just get this prospect to justify and move more in our direction. Then you won't have to do those things. So like the, you know, like pulling out the guarantees or discounts, it's just not something you should be doing on your sales calls.
