"I'm getting paid next week" vs. $8M Closer

Excerpt of a sales/closing call from a YouTube video by Christian Polk (uploaded 2026-01-26). SPEAKER A (the closer) pushes for immediate payment, offering to split the payment now (taking 'six' now and $2k after the paycheck) and arguing that delaying wastes time. SPEAKER A uses urgency and a personal anecdote — his brother being shot and a ‘4,000 weeks’ calendar — to counter SPEAKER B's hesitation. SPEAKER B prefers to wait until next Wednesday to pay in full and says they've only spoken ~45 minutes and finds an $8,000 ask abrupt. The excerpt centers on payment timing, value, and the psychological tradeoff between comfort and action.

Yeah. So would that work for you, man?
Yeah, I mean, really, I paid next Wednesday, so we can kind of wrap this all up then.
Okay. When we talk about, like, you get paid, like, next Wednesday, like, what's coming up for you, man, I just want.
To pay the full thing in full. Don't really want any, like, payment plans.
Or anything potentially, man, just to see how, like, I can help. Right, because we can figure the money part out. What do you have, like, actually set aside currently that you could invest, like, in yourself?
Probably like six.
If you have six, like, let's just go ahead, let's take the six, and then with the extra, you know, with the paycheck, we'll just do the 2k so that way you can get started right away and we don't have to prolong this for no reason.
Yeah, I just. I'll just wait till next Wednesday when I get paid.
Well, what's behind that, man?
I'd rather just pay the full amount up front.
Can I make a suggestion?
Okay.
If we're going to decide to do this, whether today, whether Wednesday, like, we know the money is going to be spent. So the only difference between now and Wednesday, the only, like, tangible difference on your bank account is just the fact that you're going to go a few days with the numbers on the screen in your bank account not being exactly what they want, and then knowing that you're going to have to pay it off come Wednesday. But the other step of this is, dude, that's wasting a week of time.
And.
And it comes down to, for you, like, do you actually value your time if we're willing to push this off for a week, knowing we need to make a change?
Yeah, I value my time. I also value doing, like, proper research as well. We've only spoken for maybe 45 minutes on this call, and for you to be asking me for eight grand right now just seems a little unreasonable. Then by the time I get paid next Wednesday, I've done my research, I've done my time and called paying it full.
Yeah, man. Can I. Can I be super straightforward with you without you getting upset at me, man?
Sure.
Do you think, like, being unreasonable, like, wanting something, do something great, like, that's a bad thing?
No.
So on some level, if you want unreasonable results, we got to do unreasonable things. Would you agree?
That's fair.
So I think the problem we're really running into, at least what I can see. And again, correct me if I'm wrong, it kind of reminds me of my favorite quote by Buddha. It goes. The problem is you think you have time. And I don't want to get too weird with you, man, but I just know from the way that, like, I grew up in a pretty rough environment. That's just not the case because I'm 28 now. But about eight years ago, when my older brother, he was 23, he got shot point blank in the chest. And as you might imagine, like I was in my, you know, I was 19. It definitely does a number on you. But what it really did is it crystallized the idea of, like, we don't have the time we think we do have. So now to really, like, crystallize that, in my head, I have a calendar. It's like over there, and it has 4,000 dots. Do you know what that stands for? Yeah, it's one dot for each week of life we're given. If we're lucky. If we're lucky, you'll get about 4,000. Not everyone's so lucky. And every single Monday, I go over there and I cross off another dot. And I ask myself, am I doing everything in my power possible to do the things that I need to do? Because I know the only thing that's going to hold me back. Getting comfortable and thinking I have time. So I have to ask you, man, are you okay crossing off another dot just to be comfortable and not do the things we know we need to do? So what do we need to do? So it's like we go to bed tonight, we know we're not crossing off any dot without doing everything necessary to perform and do the things we know we need to do.
Got to do it.
You sure?
Let's do it.
