The video presents a real‑world cold‑call exchange followed by expert commentary. Amraj, a real‑estate agent from The Align Group, calls Stan claiming Stan requested a showing for a Surrey property. Stan is confused, says he never contacted the agency, and humorously reveals he is standing naked in the shower when the call comes in. After the awkward exchange, Christian Polk reflects on the realities of outbound sales, noting how inaccurate lead data (e.g., a child entering a parent's contact info) creates resistance, and how SDRs must navigate both B2C and B2B scenarios by rolling with unexpected prospect reactions. The content illustrates common pitfalls in cold outreach—poor data quality, immediate sales resistance, and the need for adaptable communication.
Hello?
Hi, am I speaking with Stan? Yeah. Hi Stan, this is Amraj from the Align Group. We're a local real estate company. I received your phone number and name because you requested a showing for a Surrey property on 132nd Street.
Huh? Where did you get my phone number from?
I got it through an online website. It told me you were looking at a property specifically Is that correct?
No, that's where I live, but I didn't contact you guys.
Interesting. Well, are you— do you have any plans of selling your property?
Not right now, but I'll tell you what, buddy, I was having a shower and you phoned me and I'm standing here dripping wet naked, so I gotta go.
Okay, I appreciate that, San.
Thanks for the transparency. Have a great day. This will happen when you're doing outbound to B2C, even B2B. My very first offer, I was in SDR for B2B role. Some of the situations that you would find yourself in, like, no, I didn't put in my information. No, my kid put that in. It's like, oh, okay, so your kid put in your phone, your email, and like everything, your name and your business that you do just to fuck with you so I'd call you up right now. Ridiculous. I will say the way he's opening up the call, he makes it very, very aware. Like, oh, like this is a sales call. Like, hey, am I talking to Stan? That means you don't know who Stan is. And then he goes, hey, my name is insert name from from company name. Everyone says that. So it's very aware there's a sales call, causes sales resistance. But when you're doing outbound, when you're doing like people who opt into stuff, especially B2C, you just gotta roll with the punches.
Sometimes you call people while they're naked and then, you know, they're just out in the open. It's gonna happen.
