A short coaching monologue (YouTube) advising salespeople to shift from a neutral stance at the start of calls to an authoritative, conviction-driven stance at the end. The speaker explains that neutrality during discovery reduces resistance early but becomes harmful after understanding the prospect’s problems because it introduces ambiguity. He recommends using definitive language (replace 'if' with 'when', state certainty) and owning expertise—citing experience helping many similar clients—to build conviction and close deals.
So shift from being neutral at the end into being more authoritative. Okay, you are neutral at the very beginning of the sales call to get people to be open, not being assumptive. But after I know all your problems, after I know exactly where you need to go, I'm not going to say we can possibly help you. I'm going to tell you, hey, we can definitely help you. I know we can help you with your exact problem. The thing is, if you do that at the beginning, it caused resistance. But if you stay neutral throughout it, it's like, yeah, man, I feel like this could probably work for you. What you're doing is you're causing ambiguity, you're causing doubt in a place where prospects need conviction. So you are not neutral after you understand all of their problems. This is a big, big problem that I see people have. Okay, to shift from being neutral at the end into being more authoritative. Okay, how can I help? But at the end, we have conviction based on what you told me, this would definitely work for you. Replace if with when, after discovery, when you get started, not if you decide to be direct. You're exactly the type of person this works for. Own your expertise. I've helped hundreds of people in your exact situation transition with authority. This is what exactly what I need to hear. I know we can help you, so don't be a throughout the entire sales call. At the end, after you know the problems, after you've got them to trust you, after you have the rapport, after you understand their situation, then you know it works for them. Tell them that, okay? Take ambiguous language out of the window. When you're at the end of the sales call, after you actually built trust, after you actually understand their situation, neutrality goes out the window. You are an authority and you own your expertise.
