Why I shaved my head and moved to Miami lol *LIFE UPDATE*

Christian Polk explains why he shaved his head and relocated from Phoenix to Miami, centering the explanation on two themes: balance and identity. He frames balance as often incompatible with extraordinary results and argues that periods of intense, obsessive work are required to reach high income/skill levels; identity shifts (changing location, appearance) help create focus and urgency. Polk references his sales background (closing large deals), says he is scaling his coaching business to over $100,000 per month, describes moving from Miami to Phoenix for an office role for under two years before returning to Miami, and treats the shaved head as a symbolic reminder to stay disciplined. The talk mixes a listener Q&A (from a community member, "Kyle"), personal anecdotes, and a concluding CTA to subscribe or join his coaching links.
So why did I shave my head and move from Phoenix, Arizona to Miami? It comes down to two words, balance and identity. Now, somebody who's closed millions of million dollars in sales, and right now I'm scaling my own coaching business to over a hundred thousand per month. You can take what I say with a grain of salt, but I train a lot of people how to get better at sales. And two big things that always come up are going to be balance and how they view themselves. Like how they can build themselves up, how they can get more confidence. So. So I want to cover those two things today and then I'll go over my thought process of why I made the decisions that I did and how it's helped me in the past. Now very first thing is just going to be balance. And I'll go over one of the questions that was submitted to me by somebody who is in my community, his name's Kyle. And then I'll go over my answer and then I'll expand on it a little bit. So Kyle wrote to me, is it just me? Ever since I've been in sales, it kind of runs my life. Meaning I work almost every hour of every day while I'm in the shower, working, driving, et cetera. I don't feel burnt out. But every time I'm doing something that's not benefiting my future, selling, scripting, training, role playing, I feel guilty. Do you guys feel the same? And what is, and what does your current balance look like? And I would say for somebody in Kyle's position who's fairly young, really looking to get to the next level, this is pretty common. And this was the same thing like I ran into. So like, my response to him is just to really get him and everyone to think more about it, you have to ask yourself, where does this notion of balance even come from? Okay, are you unhappy with how your day to day goes and your progression is. Oftentimes you have these expectations put on you from people that are not in the same path as you and you wouldn't want to live the life that they live. So if you asked a random person if I have balance, they'd probably say no, but that's okay because I really enjoy what I do and I wouldn't want to switch places with them. Don't expect an extraordinary life doing ordinary things. Be okay being different if you're looking for a different outcome. And this was one of the biggest things that I really had to ingrain in my brain in order to get a different outcome from anyone else who I grew up with. Because me personally, I grew up in a small town. I don't know if anyone else grew up in a small town in Kansas. There's not really a lot going on. And I always had this aching feeling growing up that I just did not want to be the same as everyone else. Like, I did not want to be average. And I had no good examples of what extraordinary looked like, but I had a ton of examples of what average looked like. That that fear is what drove me to do things that are out of the ordinary. Because, like, for me, as soon as I graduated college, because I went to college, because I was the first person in my family, let alone to go to college, but even graduate high school. So I felt like I had to, right? Going back, I want to do it, but that's besides the point. And once I was done, Covid hit and I'm just like, okay, I'm out of here. I got a remote sales job and I just shipped off to Miami. And if you had asked any of my family members, is that a smart thing to do or am I being like a little bit too much risk taking? I'd probably say yeah. But it just comes down to I don't want to live the life that any of them lived. And the reason why I am able to be in a position where I don't know anyone in my peer group growing up is in the same position is because I didn't do the same things as them. We want to be exceptional, but we don't want to be the exception. And, and I understand being the exception is hard, like standing off on your own, but that's what's required. You just have to really think in your mind, especially when you're talking about balance. Is the trade off okay with you? Because if the trade off is okay, then you should be okay making that trade. And really the biggest thing that holds people back is just the thought of what are other people going to think? Because if you were to, you know, replay my life in your brain, could you come to the conclusion that I'm an under lived 27 year old? Probably right? Especially when you're talking about going to bars, drinking, doing a bunch of shit that, like, I just don't find interesting. But I'm a lot further than most people when it comes to something like finances. And that was a trade off I was willing to make and I consciously made that decision. So it just comes down to whatever you want. Just think to yourself, like, are you willing to make the trade off? Because when we talk about balance. There's no such thing. There's no such thing as like I'm going to have these extraordinary results and not be obsessive about it. For me, I was obsessed with sales. It is everything. It was all that I did for years. And after that, that's when I could get to the point where I could have balance later. Because if I just wanted to make 30,000 per month, just live off of that and be working 20 hours a week, like I can do that, but I can only reach that level of balance, quote unquote, with just two, three, four years of extreme unbalance of this is everything that I did. But then once you realize, like once you get to that point, which I did, like, once you get to like 30, 40, 50,000 per month and you do it relative ease and you don't have to grind the way that you do, you miss the grind. So you're looking for the next hill to climb. So you, you gotta find joy in climbing the hill. And that's really what it ties into your identity as well, is you have to be the person that climbs the hill. Because once you get to the top of the hill, like very first and foremost, like for a lot of people, like you want to make your first 10k, 20k, 30k, 40k, 50k, once you make that amount of money, like, you realize like number one, it doesn't make you happy. Number two, it's really not that much money. But the thing is, what really for me and for most people, what they'll find is the fulfillment is doing the hard things. So if you can start to shift yourself from being the person who is just in it for the money, but being the person who does the hard things, then you'll be better overall, like not only as a salesperson, but just in business and in general. Right? Because when you're talking about like you doing the hard things, sales is hard, having hard conversations is hard. But if you find joy in it, that's what's able to keep you going and not get burnt out. I feel like oftentimes when I see people who get burnt out, it's just because they have a misalignment of expectations and what they're really looking for. But if you're able to actually shift your identity to the person who you need to be to get the outcomes that you want, likely you're not going to have balance, but you're more likely to get the outcomes. So balance and identity are really tied in hand in hand. And that's exactly why I Bust off my head and move to Miami. Because I was living in Phoenix for just under two years, and I'd moved there because I was working for, like, a bigger company. And before, like, I got into sales, like, I always told myself I never wanted to work out in an office. And I had been doing the online remote sales for, you know, years. At this point was making a really good living. I was living in Miami beach and I was really enjoying it. But there's a bunch of changes in my life. Got out of relationship, and the opportunity came to go to Phoenix, go to Scottsdale and actually work out at an office. And I did that for, like, six months. In the first couple months, fantastic. But then after a few months, it just started to, like, eat me up on the inside. So for me, like, getting out of that area was just going back to the identity of who I was as somebody who can actually be free, but. But does the work and everything that comes with it, right? Like, getting back to my old self, who really enjoyed the grind, but doing it, like, on my own time, right? Doing it in my own place where, you know, the beach is there, the weather, and I can post, like, the view and view and stuff like that there, if you guys are interested in that at all. But then when we're talking about balance, for me, I think with my head buzz, I look ridiculous, right? You probably agree, so. And it's something that I do. And if you go back to when I first started YouTube, you'll notice it, like, the same thing. Like, I buzz my head every time I look in the mirror. I feel like I look ridiculous. So if I'm not working, then I'm like, why did I do this? Like, why did I look ridiculous for no reason. So that's why I buzzed my head, okay? Because it just gives me that constant reminder of I need to put the work in to get the outcomes that I want. Because, like, for me, again, it's getting my coaching business up above 100,000 per month, and then from there, like, obviously continue to scale it, but there's going to be moments of time where you have absolutely no balance. And I'm hitting that right now where I need absolutely no balance. And the thing is, you never know how long this no balance things is going to last. But if you put in the work, like, you'll get the fruits of the labor. So for me, like, the two biggest things that really I want to encompass is if you want different outcomes, if you want to be exceptional, big thing is, you have to understand that balance isn't a thing that you can always have. Sometimes, hopefully maybe you can get it, but oftentimes you don't. And then we have to make sure we aligned our identity with the person who actually gets the outcome that we're looking for. And for me, changing something, like your location, changing your hair, doing something different really helps me align with a new identity or a new sense of urgency. So if that's something that you're wanting to do, I'm not saying you have to shave your head, but, like, switch something up. Novelty, changing difference in surroundings, it causes focus. And you're not gonna get huge leaps and bounds in your life without focus. So hopefully this little rant gave you a little bit of value in any way. And I'll definitely be uploading a lot more YouTube here coming up, but if you like, I'm putting out, like, subscribe. And if you want to work directly with me, check out the links in the description and I'll see you guys next time.
