611 - Managing your mind vs Positive mindset

Your brain generates 60,000 thoughts daily, 80% repeats. Rather than forcing positivity, manage your mind by identifying the thought behind an unwanted feeling, reframing it, and embedding a better belief. One example: reframe social media anxiety from fear of being annoying to wanting to impact one person, which shifts you toward action and confidence.

Are you ready to get started? Let's go. Welcome back to five Minutes of Momentum. Today I'm going to talk to you about the difference between managing a mind versus a positive mindset. When someone says have a positive mindset, sometimes it can feel like a judgment. It's like, oh, does that mean I'm being negative? When sometimes we're being realistic or we're literally describing a fact. And that doesn't necessarily mean that we're being negative. But the thing is, if we ask ourselves to be positive, sometimes we can actually cause ourselves to bypass the situation instead of actually learning from it. Or we can try, or we can actually adopt like toxic positivity where we're like, nothing is wrong, everything's perfect, when really that's not the case. And so rather than having a positive mindset, because I think this comes up a lot when being a mindset coach, I have conversations around people going, yeah, yeah, I'm positive. Yeah, I'm positive. I feel like I've gotten a positive, positive mindset. Right? Like, you absolutely could have a positive mindset, but there's a big difference between having a positive mindset and managing your mind for growth and expansion. If you want to succeed, if you want to take your business to the next level, then learning to manage your mind needs to be the most essential skill that you develop. I've been recently running a, I recently ran a training on this within the next level Mastermind. And the feedback that I got from the beautiful ladies was like, this is going to change my life. Like, this is everything. Like if I knew this when I was younger and I'm like, yeah, I know, I know. And so this is why I teach it, because it is such a game changer. Learning to manage your mind by doing thought work, unpacking your current thoughts, unpacking the thoughts that you really need to adopt in order for you to believe, in order for you to take the action that's important to you to succeed, this is where the change starts to happen. It's not about having a positive mindset or a negative mindset. It's about choosing your thoughts intentionally. It's about reframing thoughts that aren't useful. It's about unpacking thoughts that are affecting you and causing you to feel a way that doesn't serve you. So what do I mean by this? Every day every human being has about 60,000 thoughts. And 80% of those thoughts are thoughts we had yesterday. So our brain is a machine, right? It loves to repeat patterns of behavior, which means it repeats thoughts. And so that's why we're usually having the same thoughts on a day to day basis. So our thoughts have an emotional response, we think something which causes us to feel something, then that emotion that we feel causes us to either take an action or to stay stuck. Right? It's either causing us to not take an action and procrastinate, or take an action. Now that could be a self sabotaging action or it could be a positive action. Now, now if we wanted to reverse engineer this, which ideally we do, we want to recognize that if I'm not getting the results that I really want to have in my business or my life, then what are the thoughts that I'm having that's driving the behavior? What are the thoughts that I'm having that's causing the emotion and what's the emotion that I'm having that's causing the behavior? When we reverse engineer that, that's when things start to massively change for us. Not only that, it changes how we feel. And so if you want to feel better, you want to feel happier, you want to feel more joy, you want to feel more satisfied, like managing your thoughts is where it's at. So this has become a practice of mine that I do on a regular basis. And I've learned to actually really be aware of the thoughts that I'm having on a daily basis. There's some of them that are super ingrained that I need to actually explore on a deeper level and that I often happens when I recognize that I'm not feeling my best. And so I'm like, okay, what is causing this feeling? And I try to unpack, what's the thought that I had? When did that emotion start to show up? What was the thought that I had that caused that emotion? And how can I reframe that thought? The other thing that I do is start to embed new belief systems that I know are going to serve me in the long run. So if I recognize that if I unpack my mindset around a specific area of my business, like let's say you're wanting to level up in a specific area and you, you unpack all the thoughts that you have around that specific area, it could be sales, it could be money, it could be leadership, it could be, you know, delegating and outsourcing. It could be showing up online like whatever area of your business that you feel like you're not getting the results that you really want to be getting. If you take a moment to stop and actually unpack, what are the thoughts and stories that you currently have about that area of your business, that will be a really huge indicator of most likely why you are getting the results that you're getting. And if you unpack those thoughts and then reframe those thoughts and make them more useful to think. So to give you an example, if I have a thought around social media about promoting myself and I think, oh, people are going to think I'm being, going to be annoying and then what that causes in a feeling of annoyance. Like I feel like I'm going to be annoying. So I don't want to be judged by anybody. And so then that causes me to take a non action where I don't show up online. Right. I procrastinate, I don't want I to put myself out there and then the result is no clients coming through because no one knows I exist. Right. Full extreme example there. But if I, you know, reverse engineer that and I go back to the thought and I go, okay, how can I reframe that thought for a more useful thought? And I say to myself, if I impact one person today and I show up and I impact one person, that's a beautiful impact that I can have. Someone needs to hear what I have to say. If I use that thought, then I feel more empowered, more enthusiastic about it, more encouraged to actually show up and share and then I'm more likely to take the action which will get me a better result. So I really want you to think about this. What area of your business and life that you feel like you would love different results, better results, I start to unpack the stories. That's the difference between managing your mind compared to just having a positive mindset. Right? So this is the work, this is the powerful work that can be a game changer for your business.
