727 - How I’m intentionally resting to set myself up for 2026

Christine Corcoran argues rest is essential business strategy before 2026. She sets out-of-office boundaries, says no to draining obligations, and fills her schedule only with "cup-filling" activities. Her three rest types: emotional (journaling, yoga), mental (social media break, nature walks), and energetic (cord-cutting).

Welcome to five Minutes of Momentum. These episodes are a short five minute burst of inspiration, motivation and massive action. If you need that little kick up the butt to get things moving and to inspire you to take massive action, then every single Thursday I'll be sending you through a five minute episode to download, digest and implement to finish your week off strong. Are you ready to get started? Let's go. Welcome back to the podcast. As we are heading into the end of the year, I want to speak to you about intentional rest. Because rest is part of your business success and if we are not resting effectively and intentionally, we can end up starting the brand new year still feeling frazzled or still feeling exhausted, which is not going to support you to be able to level up and have your most incredible year. So I want to share with you a couple of things that I'm doing over the break to make sure that I'm actually having intentional rest. Because I know what it's like. It can feel like you should not stop, it can feel like you should keep going, push through, use the opportunity, use the time that you've got to maximize and to get ahead and do all the things. But if you are not intentionally resting and you might want to still do those things, that's okay. But if you're not doing rest the right way, then you can end up feeling like you are starting from half an empty cup, right? And so I don't want that to happen for you for the new year. So I want you to start the new year feeling so grounded, with absolute positive energy, ready to go, like ready to go. So you need to see that rest is part of the strategy. It is not lazy, it is not fluff, is not this negative connotation that we can have towards self care. It is absolutely part of your business strategy. So, and especially too over Christmas, I know that with this there's always so many things, there's always so many events to attend, there's only so many family things you need to do, all the shopping, like all the things that can impact you in a negative way with regards to your energy, your energetics, right through to your mindset, right through to your nervous system, not actually getting proper rest. So your next level is going to require you be able to handle a next level of stress, a next level of capacity. And being able to handle those things means you need to be able to be at your best, right? And so having that capacity, you need space. And you need to actually have the space to really think about your intentions about your new year. And you need to think about having that space. And that requires a lot of rest. It requires so much rest. And so whether you have taken breaks over the year or not, you need to think ahead and make sure that you are actually setting aside time to rest and recharge. So then you can actually be the best version of yourself. You can have the best ideas, you can get the clarity that you need to be able to get back into momentum and take aligned action. So here's what I'm not doing and here's what I am doing to make my rest window so intentional. So firstly, I'm going to. I've already set up the communication across the board with all of my clients to ensure ahead of time they know that I'm taking a break and they won't have access to me during this time. Okay? So make sure your communication is on par. Because if you do not set up your communication channels properly, you will regret it and you will feel like you're going to have to respond. That's not the energy we need to take into rest. We need to feel like we could absolutely switch off and let your nervous system rest. So I'm making sure the communication channels are so strong, there's going to be no questions. Everyone is going to know exactly how to access me and not access me and all the things and access what they need to. They can still work within my programs, they can still dive into all the content, they can still listen to the podcast that they can still get access in that way, but they're not getting access to me. So it's so incredibly important that you set up your communication channels effectively set up your out of office. Like do all the things that support you to those boundaries to be able to have the rest that you need. Okay, secondly, I'm not saying yes to shit that I don't want to do. Like, be conscious of that. Like, pay attention to what your body is saying yes to and what your body is saying no to. And there's obviously going to be certain obligations that you're going to feel like you're going to have to do. Like, I get it. But then I work on changing my mindset and being able to be there in an intentional way. Because if I'm still choosing because it is still a choice, like even though it feels like an obligation, you're still choosing to either not upset that person by saying no or to not create drama where there needs to be drama. Like, whatever it is. Like if you are still choosing to go to that family event or to do that thing or whatever it is, take a moment just to really acknowledge, like, hey, I'm still choosing this, so how can I choose intentionally and go into this experience, this event or whatever it is with a positive mindset that's going to serve me to get the most out of it? Because sometimes you go to these things and you're like, oh my God, that's exactly what I needed, but I just didn't realize I needed it. Or you actually would have missed out on something really beautiful for if you hadn't attended. And so being open to something like that will change the way that you feel about it. So then you're actually receiving and not feeling like you're pushing through and giving, giving, giving. Okay. The other thing I'm not doing is I'm not making too many plans. Like, I'm again, not saying yes to a lot of things, but I'm also like not making heaps of plans to fill my time with stuff. So one of the things that causes that is the need to actually fill it is the resistance to actually being alone or resistance to being alone with your thoughts. And so sometimes we want to acknowledge, like, yes, we want to fill our time with fun things and we want to fill our time with friends and all the things. But you just want to be intentional with that. Like, what parts will give you will be cup filling and which parts will be draining. And what are you choosing going into that? Okay, so just choosing that and then being conscious of what you're wanting to fill your time with. And the other thing I'm doing really intentionally is choosing what will fill my cup. Right. So I'm already made a plan. Right. It's only the 5th of December when I'm recording this, but I've already made a plan of, like, what are the things that I want to do over my break that I know that are going to be cup filling, that are going to be recharging, that are going to be supportive of my energy and my energy tank for the new year. And I feel like that's what's going to make my holiday the best. Right? So not too many plans, but the plans that I am making, I know that are going to be cup filling. So really thinking about that. And so these are the three types of rest that I'm really prioritizing to prepare for 2026. One, emotional. I'm going to be giving myself the space to really defrag at the end of the year. So having some intentional time where I get to journal. I get to do a few I'm setting aside a couple of days where I'm going to be doing some ritual. I'm going to be going to some breath work sessions. I'm going to be really doing some deeper meditation and yoga and Pilates, like doing all the things to get back into my body and support myself emotionally. Okay. That also helps with the mental, but the mental piece that I want to when I want to speak to. So the three types are emotional, mental and energetic rest. Okay, so the mental is the mental space outside of my business. So there's going to be intentional time where I take a break off social media again, to protect my mental health, to protect my space, to protect my energetics, and to really just come back to those channels with real inspired energy rather than it be like, oh, God, I have to, right? So I'm actually going to be taking a social media break and then I am intentionally thinking about who I really want to spend time with and what's going to lift me up and fill my cup. I'm going to be spending time in nature. So I've got a couple of places that I want to visit and do some nature walks and a couple of friends that I'll take along for that because I know it'll be really cup filling and just getting back into nature always serves me. So there'll be absolutely beach time and like beach time where I'm doing nothing. So no podcasts, no audio books, no whatever, allowing myself just to completely rest and switch off. And so the mental piece I just wanted to touch on too is like the journaling practices of like letting go of 2025 and doing some rituals around that, some energetic clearings as well. I'll be doing some cord cutting, like literally doing a couple of days of that because I feel like it's just so what I need. And also I know it'll set me up for the new year. So I'll be doing some journaling around, like what I want to release, what I want to let go of, what still feels sticky or still has resistance around it. What have I not processed with certain things that have happened throughout this year that maybe I just didn't feel like I had the time or it wasn't the time, is actually allow myself to process some certain things. Then that's where the breath work will come in to support me as well. So I hope that you take this and think about how you're going to intentionally create rest for yourself over the Christmas break and come back to 2026 feeling absolutely recharged and ready to take it on.
