First round job interviews are so predictable. Practice these 8 questions, you'll ace them all. The first question is, how are you? You might think this is the throwaway question, but it isn't. This is where they're going to be developing their first impression of you. So say something beyond, I'm good. Truly volunteer insignificant pieces of information. That's the secret to small talks. Something like, I'm doing really well. This is actually the first day where I hit every green light on the way to the office. And then that could turn into a conversation. Oh, do you commute or are you remote? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. The next one is, are you familiar with what the company does? This is not a trick question, though you should say what you know, show that you did your research, but you should also ask them, but I'd love to hear about it from your perspective. Next is, tell me about yourself. They're very likely to ask you this question. So you need to take 3 steps. First, what type of professional are you? I'm a human resources professional who helps scale growing tech startups. Okay, second, walk through your past career history only highlighting things that are extremely relevant to the role, but also do this very quickly, like 1 to 2 points per past role for only the most recent roles. And then third, finish up your answer by saying why you're most interested in this role as your next step. What are you looking for? They truly want to match what you're looking for to what they're offering, so Be specific, but essentially describe what they're offering. Why do you want to leave your job? They are trying to understand why did you leave your other jobs? Why do you wanna leave this one? Because they're afraid you're going to leave for the same reason and they don't wanna give you a job that you don't like. So answer this in as short amount of time as possible. You do not wanna give all the details. You can say something as simple as, I love my job there, but unfortunately I was part of the major company-wide layoffs company. Why are you interested in this role? Be very specific. Make sure you are pointing to specific parts of the role, tasks you're gonna have to do day in and day out, and why those things interest you, and how your skills that you've built up into this point reinforce that. Next is, what is your compensation requirement? Ask, what is the range for this role? If they don't give it to you, say, well, I'm flexible for the right type of opportunity and compensation package. If they still ask you for an answer, make sure you have a researched range and say, this is what I'm seeing out in the market. Does that fit what you're seeing? Finally, do you have any questions? Ask more about the goals of the job, how it's measured, all of that. Make sure your questions aren't easily Googleable, but I also have so many videos and examples of questions to ask. You got this, Wi-Fi high five.
