Simon Sinek argues that giving yourself permission to pause is an earned reward, not an excuse. Grace means sitting with struggle without guilt when motivation fades, different from avoidance.

I think grace is underappreciated as a practice. You know, we're talking about gratitude and we're talking about all these sort of things that are very important, but I think we don't talk enough about grace, which is when I'm feeling like I just don't feel like working, I just don't want to do it, there are good reasons for it, I just don't want to, then I don't. And instead of beating myself up or making myself feel guilty for not having the energy, I allow myself grace. Grace is not a mechanism to avoid the struggle, to avoid discomfort. Grace is not a mechanism to step away from difficulty. It's the reward you get when you're in it. It's the space you're allowed when you have leaned into the discomfort and say, I'm sitting in this and I do not like this and it is hurting me and I'm going to allow myself to feel not guilty that, that I cannot move forward today.
