How do you recommend people introduce themselves in a job interview?
So this is the age-old question of tell me about yourself, and so many people trip over it, and it takes 3 steps. So the first thing you do is an overarching statement of the type of professional you are. You really want to set the stage of being focused on exactly what the role you're going for is. So I might say something like, well, I'm a human resources leader who specializes in growth stage companies in the technology industry. Very straightforward, concise, hard skills. Next, you want to go to your highlight section. So this is where you're going to walk through your career. I would typically say, you know, most recent to least recent role, and focusing more on your last 2 to 3 roles and kind of just saying, and then I had a few other roles before that. Give some accomplishments for each. At my most recent role at X Company, I led the human resources department where we focused on retention, blah blah blah blah blah. And then I might give an accomplishment. Before that, I worked at why company where I did, and then, but we're giving accomplishments that are highly relevant to the role. Finally, end your answer by saying why this role that you're interviewing for is the best next opportunity for you. And this will really help you to stop rambling. So you'll end it by saying something, and the reason why I was so interested in this opportunity as my next step is because, and then say something specific. Don't just say, and because, you know, you all have a really empowering mission. Now say, when I read the job description that I would get to work on X and Z in this industry, that really me.
