Leaders build trust by being consistently available, admitting mistakes openly, and asking for help without shame. Framing assistance as an honor rather than weakness, and owning uncertainty with confidence when trying something new, inspires teams to support the effort.
Chapters
Make yourself available. Be available to admit when you make a mistake. Be available to admit that you need help or ask for help. And we don't build trust with our teams by offering help. We build trust by asking for it. It's a great honor for someone to try something new and try something different. You have to own the fact that you don't know something or that you're trying something new. So for example, you're not gonna come into a meeting and say, "I decided to try something new." I don't know how to do this. It could go in any direction. Don't do that. That's not a good idea. But you can walk into a meeting and go, okay, I've decided to try something new. I have no idea how this is going to go, and it could go in any direction. You own it. And it's the confidence that inspires the people. It's the confidence that you are walking into the unknown and that's what inspires people to want to help and join you.
