How the World's Most Successful People Battleproof Their Brains | Robin Sharma

Robin Sharma explains transient hypofrontality, a brain state triggered by solitude and focused work that produces flow and creative mastery. The prefrontal cortex slows, brainwaves shift from beta to theta, and your brain floods with endorphins, dopamine, and other chemicals that sharpen learning.

Hi, it's Robin Sharma, and I'm here in Montreal for the Montreal Grand Prix. One of my favorite clients is a manager for one of the drivers. And so we're out here in Montreal to watch the time trials today and then the race. But the real reason I wanted to show up is I just finished a long run through Montreal at 5am and I really wanted to share something I taught this past weekend at Personal Mastery Academy. And it's called Transient Hypofrontality. It's a model I've been teaching for the past couple of years. It's really, really important that you understand and wrap your brain cells around transient hypofrontality, because in many ways, this is the foundation, the explanation of how Shakespeare rolled. It's a foundation of how Beyonce does what she does. It's a foundation of why, when you are in the pocket, or what a lot of athletes call in the zone to time slows down. You have a heightened sense of visual acuity. You learn more quickly, and you produce mastery. And this will give you an unbeatable advantage against other people in your marketplace, if you really understand that. So I spent, I don't know, half an hour at Personal Mastery Academy teaching it. I've got a whole model around it. But here is the key. The crown jewel of human reasoning is the prefrontal cortex. This is, you know, it allowed us to create tools, it allowed us to advance. We're much less primitive because of this part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex. And while that allows us to be very intellectual and allows us to reason a lot, it also creates a lot of suffering. And you know exactly what I'm talking about. No matter where you are from around the world, you know, your mind never stops. You're thinking about the past, you're thinking about the present, you're thinking about the future. And I think it was Mark Twain who said, I've had a lot of troubles in my life, some of which actually happened. And so when you isolate yourself, the secret of all geniuses and extremely productive people is isolation. The concept that I teach is called your Menlo Park. Edison had a laboratory he would go to or a house on a hill called Menlo park, and he and his band of merry men would go there for days, and they'd get. They'd literally be lost in the wilderness, focusing on their core project. And we live in a world of such distraction that we never get into the state called transient hypofrontality, which is when you isolate and that's why solitude is so important. That's why having your Menlo park is so important. That's why turning off your devices for non device chunks every day is a game changer. And what happens is your prefrontal cortex actually slows down. Okay? That's why it's transient, temporary hypo, smaller frontality. Your prefrontal cortex slows down and you stop the monkey mind and you stop the constant thinking and you drop from beta waves in your brain waves to alpha and right down to theta perhaps. And Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wrote a book I read 20 years ago called Flow the Psychology of Optimal Experience, one of my favorite books. Really read this book and he called it Flow. And this is why when you meditate, you get great ideas. This is why you're out taking your nature walks. I've talked about the second wind workout. It's unbelievably important. And what starts to happen is when you isolate yourself and when you get away from distraction and you spend time in your Menlo park and you immerse yourself in solitude and you monomaniacally focus on the problem or project that you are working on, like all great masters do, you create a pharmacy of mastery. You literally release. There's a number of brain chemicals, but one would be endorphins, another would be dopamine, another would be norepinephrine, another would be oxytocin, and another would be serotonin. And you also have anandamide. And these come together and it gives you. It almost bulletproofs your brain. And you create this pharmacy of mastery that I talk about in my live events that makes you absolutely unbeatable in the entire world. And so it's really important that you understand transient hypofrontality. This is not something that only the Kanye's and the Jay Z's and the Federers and the great F1 drivers have. We all have this capability and that is a really revolutionary piece of information. The children in India, like a filmmaker in India, a child in Bogota, someone in Mexico, an entrepreneur in Toronto, a billionaire in Shanghai, a author or poet or taxi driver in Tel Aviv or in Dubai, we all have this, and they should be teaching this in school. So children understand that genius is not about genetics. Genius is about your life structures like isolating yourself consciously on a regular basis. It's about your mindsets, your heart sets, your soul sets, and your health sets. Anyway, if you want to learn more about this and you really want to have an unbeatable advantage in your marketplace and in your life. And you really want to learn what you're made of in terms of the science and the neurobiology and the neuroscience and the epigenetics and then the philosophy and the spirituality that I bring together in my work, then do the rest of your life a giant favor and go on over right away to robinsharmanation.com I've started a brand new coaching program online. Not everyone's going to get in. It's a fraction of the cost of the Titan Summit, my famous live event that you've probably heard about. Richard Branson has been on my faculty and Shaq and co founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak. It costs so much more, less than Iconx, my premium super elite coaching circle and even my online courses. So Robin Sharma Nation will be me coaching you every single month online on this kind of information. And if you want to learn more of it and you want to learn how to live it and you want to learn how to be more prosperous and more grateful and ultimately if you want to learn, not only be a lot happier and to create a beautiful life that you really love each morning, but if you want to serve the world because standing in the fullest expression of your highest potential is how you change the world and inspire other people. So you live it and you become battle proofed and bulletproof and you do world class work. Okay? I love you a lot and hope this video has been great. And if there's someone who you want to teach transient hypofrontality too, so you inspire them, share this video right away and I'll talk to you really soon. Okay, bye.
