Hey everyone, this is self made Millennial. I'm Madeline Mann. Don't know how to decline a job interview in a way that doesn't burn any bridges and actually may leave the door open for future opportunities. Oh, this sounds awkward, but I promise it won't be. Watch for my email templates to decline a job interview that will work if it's a recruiter who just reached out to you, or all the way to if you're knee deep in interviews with them and you realize that this role is not exact right one for you for whatever reason. Now do something sweet for your career and take a few minutes out of every week to watch these videos. So make sure that you are subscribed to this channel and hit the bell to get new videos every Thursday. So I will walk you through five tips you must know for declining an interview as well as two full templates. These email templates work so well that I've had a client who used one of these templates and then approached the company six months later to ask if they can interview at the company again and they immediately put them through to final round interviews. Yeah. Tip number one Use email instead of phone. Most of the time I would advise for you to use email instead of the phone. It's faster and it's important for the employer to know as soon as possible that you are declining. You do not want to get on the phone, interview or in person and then say on that call that you're dropping out. Tell them before that. Tip number two Be super nice and grateful. I've seen all the lovely comments you all write on these videos, so I know that you're more than capable of being delightful. But I'll also show you how to show the right amount of gratitude towards the end of this video when I reveal the template. Tip number three Send it as soon as you can. So I once signed an offer three hours before I had an interview with another company. So I emailed that company right away saying I couldn't do it. Now that's obviously late in the game. Three hours, you know that doesn't give that much time, but they would rather know that than, you know, actually me going into the interview and then burning a whole hour interviewing me. Have you ever had to decline a job interview within hours before was about to happen? How did you approach it and leave that information in the comments? Tip number four Briefly provide an explanation. This tip is completely optional. Explain why you're declining the interview if you want to, but not in too much detail. So for the example I just mentioned where I emailed them three hours before the interview was about to happen. I said to them, well you know what, let me go grab my computer and I will show you what I said. I said, hi, thank you so much for setting this up. I was urged to make a decision today on the offers I received and it ended up being too good to pass up. So I will have to bow out from consideration from company. You all are such an incredible company and it was my pleasure to be considered for the team. I wish you all the best. So the reason I gave here was that I signed another offer which they knew I had other offers. I think giving a reason is nice. It gives them a bit of clarity if you feel shy about it, such as if they said to pay was a certain amount and you said yes, that's fine. But then you thought about it and the more you thought about it you realize that you would never take a job at that rate. You can use the phrase upon reflection to show that you've changed your mind. Such as upon reflection, I've come to see that the compensation for this role is outside of the range that I feel comfortable accepting. Or if it's due to location, you could say upon reflection, I've come to see that commuting to your location won't fit with my lifestyle. Tip number five Send them this email. I'm going to give you two templates because I want you to be prepared for anything. So first, if someone like a recruiter simply reached out to you to interview you for a company and you have not started interviewing with them yet, you can say hi, thank you so much for reaching out. I am not interested in interviewing at this time. I will keep this role in mind and refer anyone who may be a good match. Best of luck on the search. And then if you can refer anyone, do let's help each other out here people. Now, if you've already started interviewing with a company and you need to bow out, write this hi name. Thank you for taking the time to consider me for the blank position. However, I must withdraw my candidacy for this role and then it's optional if you want to write the reason there's I really appreciate the time you took to get to know me. There are so many wonderful things about your company and I know I would be fortunate to work there. I wish the team the best going forward. I'm rooting for you all. Best your name. This is a bit warmer, slightly less robotic than some of the other templates you'll find online. Maybe this is not your vibe and that's cool. But this email connects on more of an emotional level than I regret to inform you. My sincerest regards. We are all already talking to Alexa and Siri. We don't need more people acting like robots. Now you know how to decline an interview, but when you get to that final stage with a company, you are going to want the salary negotiation tips to get massive increases to your salary.
