The speaker (Clegg) presents a concise hiring rule: prioritize relationships over resumes. He explains that everyone they've hired was someone they already had a relationship with—through family, seminars, courses, social media followership, or prior work interaction—so the employer already understands each person’s character and can place them appropriately.

Have you ever wondered how to hire and keep good people? Here's the most important rule I've discovered. For me, in the arena of hiring good people, relationships are more valuable than resumes. What does that mean? Everybody that we've hired is somebody that I had a relationship with in some way, shape or form before we hired them. Now, maybe they had a relationship with my content. Maybe they had a relationship with one of my courses or one of my books. People who believe in the mission like, I've got family members. We got a couple of my brothers who are on our team. Rinda was somebody who came to a seminar and bought a package that I want to work for you. I hired her, worked out fabulously. Zach and Laura were in my inner circle for a little while. Jose was somebody who followed us on Instagram or YouTube. Larry was somebody who worked at the golf course. When I hire people that I already have a relationship with, now I know their character. All we have to do is plug them into the right spot. Relationships are more valuable than resumes.
