What is one of your constant frustrations that this problem just keeps rearing? Like, just a perpetual frustration for you in, in the advice that you give?
I would say the amount of priority people put on instant chemistry and this thing that, like, you're attracted to who you're attracted to, and they can be drawn in by someone who has shiny qualities or fits their idea of a type. But we know that through hedonic adaptation, we adjust to those things. We adjust to their height, we adjust to their income, we adjust to, I don't know, their waist size. And that thing that drew us in that made us so excited, it goes away in like 2 years. Mm-hmm. So what's left after that? It's the quiet qualities. And research also confirms this. It's the quiet qualities that can Um, predict if a relationship will be happy or successful. And it's how committed is your partner to you? How appreciated do you feel? How well do you handle conflict together? And that might not show up on a second date. I'm very optimistic about love. I think that there are a lot of viable partners around us all the time. I think one of our main problems is we have blinders on because we are overemphasizing the things that don't matter in the long term.
