What Makes Jesus Different

Myron Golden explains why Jesus holds a name above every name: he is the ultimate pattern, the highest person as fully God and fully man, and the only one who fulfilled substitutionary atonement through death, burial, and resurrection.

Hey, YouTube, Myron golden here. And today I am going to share with you the most important message that I brought since I've been on YouTube. And I know, like, how can you say that? Well, you'll see when I get done. And I want to talk to you on this subject. Why Jesus has a name above every other name. And it's really important not just to understand that he does, but to understand why he does. If y' all tracking, wave at me. Say, I'm tracking. Okay, perfect. So we're gonna look at Philippians, chapter two, verse number, starting with verse number five. And here's what it says. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore. Now, whenever we read wherefore in scripture, or we read therefore, whenever there's a wherefore or therefore, we know it's referring to what came before. Are y' all tracking? Okay, so wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. To us, in our modern day culture in the West, a name is like a title. A name is like a label. What we name our children based on a name that we like the sound of. But in Bible times, names weren't just labels. They weren't just titles, but label names were descriptions. And so the name is more than just.
This is what I call this person. What isn't a name for people who have left their mark in this world? Their name is almost like a one word biography. We think of Moses, we think of a man with uplifted hands, with a rod in those hands, leading 2 million people. When we think of Alexander the Great, we think of a great wild young man who conquered most of the known world by the time he was 30. When you think of Demosthenes, we think of that great silver tongued orator of Greece who even made men like Philip of Macedon tremble.
When we think of Shakespeare, we think of one whose ink flowed from his pen like golden pollen off shaken lilies.
But when we think of the name Jesus. It's different. See, if we were to walk. If Moses were to walk into a room with the greatest leaders who've ever lived, they'd all have to stand and give him reverence.
If Alexander the Great walked into the greatest military leaders who've ever lived, in front of all of them, they would all have to stand and say, he's the best ever. He's the goat.
If Demosthenes walked among every orator who's ever given a speech, they'd all have to stand and say, he's the best.
If Shakespeare walked among the most literate people of literature, they'd have to say.
I yield my pen and have to stand and give him reverence. But if Jesus walked into the presence in this very room today, rather than stand, we'd have to kneel in his presence. That's how great he is. Why does Jesus have a name? Wherefore God hath given him a name for these reasons, for these causes, God gave Jesus a name above every name. What does it say? It says, let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. What is that telling us? That's telling us that the reason Jesus had a name above every name is because.
He was a pattern above all patterns. It said, let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. In other words, think like he thought. How did he think? Well, he knew who he was.
Being in the form of God, he thought it not robbery to be equal with God. If you think you're something that you're not, then you're making a mistake. But Jesus knew who he was. But he didn't just know who he was. He was the pattern beyond all patterns, not just because he knew who he was, but because he knew who he was. And he didn't need you to know who he was. That's why it says, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but he made himself of no reputation. He didn't care if you knew who he was because he knew who he was. He didn't need you to sign off on his identity. He didn't need me to sign off on his authority. He owned it. So we see. We see, first and foremost, the reason Jesus had a name above every name is because he was a pattern above all patterns. We can think like him, but even though he knew who he was and he owned his identity, he had a pattern above all patterns. But guess what?
He had a position above all positions.
What does that mean? Well, here's what it means.
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God? What does it tell us in Isaiah? It says, for unto us a child is born. What else does it say? Unto us a son is given. The child was born, but the son was given. We see Christ all through the Old Testament. We see it in Genesis chapter 15, where God enters a covenant with Abram. And God enters this covenant with Abram. And he Abram, here's what I want you to do. I want you to bring a heifer three years old, a she goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle dove and a young pigeon. He said, I want you to kill these animals. And I want you to cut them in pieces. But don't cut the birds. Put them in a pile. Put them in two piles. And then I'm going to enter covenant with you. And when they entered covenant, one person would stand on one side and the other person would stand on the other side. They'd have these two piles of animal carcass behind them. This person would walk around that animal carcass in a circle, looking at this carcass. This person would walk around this carcass, looking at the carcass of this animal. They would come in the middle. They take a knife in their left hand. They'd cut their right hand. They put their hands together. Your blood becomes my blood. My blood becomes your blood. They exchange covenant vows. I'm going to give everything I have. My time, my effort, my energy, my money, my wealth, even my life, if necessary, to protect you and yours. They put their hands together. Your blood becomes. They'd exchange covenant names. If Tom and I were going to exchange a covenant together, I would become Myron, Tom Golden. He would become Tom, Myron, Garrett. They'd exchange covenant names, and they'd exchange covenant vows. And we become covenant brothers. And God's getting ready to enter a covenant with Abram in Genesis, chapter 15. But Abraham's got a couple of problems. Or Abram as his name was before. Then Abram's got a couple of problems. One.
Abram couldn't keep the covenant, so he would have to die.
Two.
No man has seen God at any time and lived. And when they come back together in the middle, they're face to face. He's in double jeopardy. So what does God do? God put him under the same holy anesthesia that he put Adam under when he established Adam's covenant with Eve. And he put Adam to sleep. And then he put Abram to sleep. You're getting ready to enter into covenant. So he put him to sleep. And here's what happened. It says, and it came to pass when the sun went down, that a smoking furnace and a burning lamp passed between those pieces. The smoking furnace is a type of God the Father. Because that's what it says in Exodus. When God came down on Mount Sinai, it says the smoke ascended like the smoke of a great furnace. In Hebrews, it tells us, our God is a consuming fire. But Jesus is that burning lamp. The scripture says, jesus said, I am the light of the world.
And so that is a picture of Christ being a substitute for Abram. Long before Jesus was born, he had to have a name above every name because he has a pattern. He's a pattern above all patterns. He has a position above all positions. But not only that. Here's what it says. It says, let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men. He was a person above all people.
Like, if your pattern is the highest pattern and your position is the highest position, and you as a person, you're the highest person, how could you help but have a name that's higher than every other name?
How is he a person above all persons? Because he is God, but he is man. He's not half God and half man, but he's all God and all man.
He's man enough to be born of a virgin.
But he's God enough to have a human mother without a human father.
He's God enough to be baptized in Jordan. We were in Israel, and we were at probably the place where or nearby where Christ himself was baptized. He was baptized in the river Jordan. But when the storm came, he came walking on top of the water. Man enough to be baptized in Jordan. God enough to walk on the waters.
He's a person above all people.
He's man enough to weep when Lazarus died. But he's God enough to raise him from the dead.
He's a person above all people. And even though he was God, even though he is not just a king, he's not just the king. He is the King of all kings. And as the king of all kings, he made himself of no reputation, but took upon him the form of a servant. He is our example of a servant king. When we understand who Jesus is. Now we can wrap our mind around why it says in Philippians, wherefore God also hath given him a name that is above every name.
Wait a minute. It gets better. It says, but took upon the form of a servant, was made in the likeness of men, and being found in fashion as a man. Wait a minute. What did he do? He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Not only that, not only was a person above all people, but he had a purpose above all purposes.
What was that purpose? To reestablish the original God's original intent.
What was God's original intent? Be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it and have dominion. When Jesus came to Earth, he did not. Yes, he fed the hungry. Yes, he opened blind eyes. Yes, he opened dead, deaf ears. Yes, he raised people from the dead. But what he preached when he came is repent. For the kingdom of heaven is at hand. It's here.
Are y' all tracking?
Like when we. When we. When we wrap our mind, when we wrap our minds, our collective minds around what the scripture is telling us. How can we do anything but be in awe when we are in his presence? He's the God of gods. He's the King of kings. He's the Lord of Lords, and yet he's a servant.
He's a person above all people.
If Christ the King of kings.
Can become a person who makes himself of no reputation but takes upon him the form of a servant, who am I to think that I don't have to serve somebody?
Christ helps me realize what is the first thing it said in verse two. Let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus. When I look at Christ, he lets me know why I'm here. I am here to serve the people I come in contact with. Every single time I come in contact with somebody.
If I really know who I am, I don't have to make you know who I am. I don't have to tell you who I am. I don't have to show you who I am. I don't have to flex who I am. All I have to do is show up and serve, because I know who I am. Like, when you know who you are, you can show up and serve.
He had a purpose above all people. What is that? Well, he was a person above all people. And then he came, even though he was God, he came to live on earth with man as a man.
Even though he had a position above all positions, he coexisted in Eternity with God as God.
He has a purpose above all purposes. What is that? He died on a cross.
For sinners with sinners as sin.
What do you mean as sin? Here's what it says. For he, God hath made him Jesus to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Or you know, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, rich how rich in righteousness, yet for your sakes he became poor. That you through his poverty might be rich. Why does Jesus have to have a name above every name? He had a purpose above all purpose. Do you understand? If you read if when we're reading Philippians chapter two and we see that Christ humbled himself, became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross, do you realize had he not done that, we would all be living out the theme of the book of Ecclesiastes? What's the theme of the book of Ecclesiastes? If you live your life for life under heaven, you have wasted your life and tortured yourself.
So if that's all you're living for, if all you're living for is life under heaven, you've wasted your life and tortures. That's what it means when it says all is vanity and vexation of spirit. The theme of Ecclesiastes is, is not that life is vain and it's empty and it's wasteful and it's torturous. It's if you live your life for life under heaven, you've tortured yourself and wasted your life. I mean, having a lot of money is fine, but here's what the scripture tells about having a lot of money, riches, profit. Not in the day of death.
Can a man redeem his own soul. No, he cannot.
Well, he had a purpose above all purposes because he died on the cross with sinners, for sinners as sin.
Why? So that he could restore your relationship and my relationship with God. His way, not your way, not my way, not some religious person's way, not some other person's way, not somebody who coming and starting the newest religion's way.
There's all this talk in modern day Churchianity.
You'll go to church and what they'll do is you'll hear a sermon and then what they'll do at the end is they'll invite you to give your life to Christ. That is satanic doctrine.
What do you mean that's satanic doctrine? There's no place in the scripture that says salvation is me giving my Life to Christ. So we've taken a gift that God has given us, which is salvation, and we've turned it into a gift we give him.
Here's what it says. It says for by grace. You know what the word grace means? It's a gift. For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God. What? Even the faith that you get to receive the grace is a gift. God gives you a gift to receive a gift. Why? So no man can boast.
I'm going to give my life to Jesus. What are you going to do with it?
Jesus gave his life for us. That's salvation. I yield my life to him. That's how I live it out. For the love of Christ constraineth us because we thus judge that if one died for all, then we're all dead. And they that henceforth live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him that died for them and rose again. So I live my life for Christ out of gratitude, not for salvation.
Salvation is a gift God gave us. Every time I hear somebody say, oh, just give your life to come down and give your life to Jesus. Jesus don't want your life.
Not the way it is. It's raggedy.
But mine's raggedy. Here's what the scripture says about our righteousness. Our righteousness is as filthy rags. Don't be confused about it. Salvation is not a gift you give God. He had a purpose about. If you've given your life to Jesus as the way to salvation. Jesus death was a waste, by the way. His death, burial and resurrection is the gospel of salvation, period. It's not his death, burial and resurrection plus your good deeds.
It's not his death, burial and resurrection plus anything. Because anything you add to it takes away from what he did. I know Jesus gave down payment, but I'm going to pay the rest. Good luck with that.
He had a purpose above all purposes.
Wherefore God also has highly exalted him and given a name which is above every name. Why? Because he humbled himself, became obedient to death. Even the death of the cross. He died and he was buried. And he was in the grave for three days and three nights. And I know people don't like it when I say this, but I'm going to say it anyway. That's why Good Friday is a Catholic lie. It's not a biblical truth.
There are not three days between Friday and Sunday. There's no way you can do it. There ain't three days and three Nights, it's not. There are not three days and three nights between like the Hebrew days start at night. If you don't believe me, go read Genesis. The evening and the morning were the first day. The evening and morning were second day. Evening and morning were the third day. Evening, morning were the fourth day. Evening, morning and fifth day. Evening, morning. They start at night. Why did the. Why did, why is it important that the Hebrew day starts at night? Because in God's economy, things always go from dark, from darkness to light.
From lack of illumination to illumination, from I'm blind in my sin to I can see. It's a picture. Everything points to Christ.
Do you understand?
Like, do we really. Can we really wrap our minds around the fact that our, all of us, all of us deserve. Every single solitary person who's ever been born on planet earth deserves hell.
Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for that sin. And we say, appreciate that, but I think I'm going to do it my way.
No wonder God is not going to accept any other payment. He gave his son's life.
Why a name above every name? Maybe this is why it says in the Book of Acts, neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name given among men whereby ye must be saved. Did you know that the Old, like the Old Testament name Joshua in the Hebrew is the modern day equivalent of the New Testament name Jesus? Did y' all know that? Well, the word Joshua, Yeshua, literally means salvation. Do you remember what Moses said to the children of Israel when they came to the Red Sea? Pharaoh's armies behind them, they said, oh, let's go back to Egypt. What did Moses say? Stand still.
And see the salvation of the Lord. Stand still. Why? Because you can't do anything to help him. It's his death, burial and resurrection only or nothing, period. And that's why, that's why it tells us. That's why it tells us. In Matthew, chapter seven, it says, many will say unto me in that day, lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, in thy name cast out demons and in thy name done many wonderful works? Then will I profess unto them, Watch this. I never knew you not. I don't know you anymore. I never knew you. Depart from me, you workers of iniquity. Why? Because you're counting on yourself. And Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain. He washed it white as snow. Crimson is. Anyway.
When we understand the name of Jesus, now we understand why everything is about him.
You can't even introduce yourself to me without telling introducing me to him first. If I say I am Myron, I told you his name before I told you my name.
Even an atheist. I am an atheist. Thank you for introducing me to God first.
Are y' all tracking?
Can you all see that? Like, we don't even know what day it is without Christ.
Today is March 1, 2023. What is 2023? 2023 years. Anno Domini. What is Anno Domin? After our Lord. Every date in human history is measured as a BC or an AD.
Why? Cause he's the center of everything. By him all things consist. Oh, maybe that's why it tells us in the Book of revelation, in chapter 4, verse number 11. For created all things, and for thy pleasure they are. That means they exist and they were created. Thou art Lord, O Lord, art worthy to receive glory and honor and power. For Thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
As I get ready to wrap up today, allow me to get on board the old ship of Zion and mount the tallest mass.
As we look through Scripture at this name that's above every name. Because in the Old Testament, it tells us he is Adam. But in the New Testament, it tells us he is Advocate. He's Adam. Advocate, anointed, Apostle, Author. Amen. Alpha, ancient of days beginning, born of a woman, begotten beloved, branch bred bridegroom. He's the bright and morning star. He's the Bishop of our souls. He's the brightness of the Father's glory. He's the cluster of camphor. He's the Captain Consolation, Chief, Cornerstone. He's the counselor, Covenant, Chosen of God and our Christ. He's the Daysman, the deliverer, Day star, Door, the desire of all nations. He's elect Ensign, Everlasting Father, Emmanuel. He's the finisher of our faith. He's our forerunner and he is our friend. He's the first fruits, faithful witness, fountain of life issuing from the caves of death. He is God. He's the gift of God. He's the governor, the guide and our glorious Lord. He's help, hope, our husband, horn of salvation, healer, head of the Church, Heir of all things, High Priest, Hells dread, Heaven's wonder and the Holy One. He's I am Inheritance, image of God's person, immortal and invisible. He's Judah, Judge Just. He's Jesus. He's King, King of Israel, King of glory, King everlasting. Amen. He's life, he's light. He's love. He's Lily. He's lion. He's lamb. He's Lawgiver, living stone and the Lord of Glory. He's messenger, Mediator, Master, Messiah, mighty God, Mercy's paradox. He's the Nazarene and the offspring of David. He's Omega, only begotten of God, offering and offerer. He's priest, Passover, potentate, prophet, propitiation, Prince of life, Prince of peace, position. He's the quencher of our thirst. He's righteousness. Rabbi, Ransom. Rest. He's rest. He's rest.
Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden. Take my yoke upon me and learn of me. My yoke is easy and my burden is light. He's rest, Redeemer, Rock of ages. He's the regenerate breath, rekindling the soul's fire on the soul's altar and restoring the silent strings of the Spirit's young harp and tuning them to heaven's harmony. He's stone, shepherd, Son of man, Son of God. Amen. Shield, servant, seed of a woman, surety, sufferer, Savior, sinless sacrifice. He's the same yesterday, today and forever. He's teacher, truth, tabernacle, testator, treasurer, tree of life. He's the unifier of the brethren. He is the victory. He's the vine, he's the witness. He's the Word, he's the way. He's the extra mile. He's the zealous one. He's the lovely and mighty Christ beyond which the human mind cannot comprehend. People talk about he's the reason for the season. I've got news for you. He's the reason when there is no season. The only life we have is the life we have in Christ. And if you don't have life in Christ, you don't have life.
You may go to church, you may have been baptized. But if you don't have Christ, you don't have life. Everything is about Him. It's all about Him. All roads lead to Him. And he is the road and the only road that leads to God.
If I live my life for something other than Christ, I have wasted my life. The other stuff I do is stuff I do while I'm on his mission for my life.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name above every name, above the name of every celebrity, above the name of every politician, above the name of every author, above the name of every speaker, above the name of all people, given a name above every name. That at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow it's really interesting about every knee bowing to Christ, because some knees refuse to bow now, but here's the thing. It's not if you bow or if you don't bow, it's when you bow. You're going to bow now or you're going to bow later.
You're going to comply and bow, or you're going to be compelled to bow. But everybody is going to bow. Hitler, who hated the Jews, is going to bow. Haman, who hated the Jews, is going to bow. Why? Because God has given him a name above every name that is the name of Jesus. Every knee should bow. Every knee, every knee should. And every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. He is everything. He is all in all.
He's the reason why we have a purpose. He's the one who designed our purpose.
He's the One who deployed us in that purpose. He's the one who demands that we develop ourselves in. And for that purpose, let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. What mind? The mind that knows who he is, who, being in the form of God. He knew who he was, but he made himself of no reputation. You know who you are so much you don't have to prove it to other people. Let that mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus. What if we all had the mind that we know who we are, so nobody can make us feel more than, and nobody can make us feel less than, because we know we are exactly who he made us to be.
Let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ, who, being in the form of God, thought I would be equal with God, but made himself no reputation, took upon him the form of a servant? What if every day for the rest of my life and every day for the rest of your life, we just let this mind, the mind of a servant, be in you and be in me?
I think it would change everything.
In fact, I know it would.
Thank you for your word, Father. Thank you for your son that you gave for us. Not because we deserve it, but because you desire to restore our relationship with you. If you don't know Jesus, you're watching on YouTube or you're watching on Zoom, or you're watching this room. I urge you, receive him as your savior. Trust fully in his death, his burial, his resurrection, and not in some good deed that you have done. Trust in his death, burial and resurrection only as your full propitiation for your sins, so that you can have a restored relationship with God after Adam. And Eve brought the curse on the earth. And that's why Jesus name is the most important name in the history of names. Stay blessed by the best. My people. God bless you. I look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday. In the meantime, in between time, thank you for subscribing. Thank you for liking, thank you for sharing. Thank you for spreading the word of what we do on this channel. Stay blessed by the best. Peace out, Cub Scouts.
