Codie Sanchez argues that true pain makes the best excuses because people accept them without question. A chaotic childhood or betrayal explains where you started, not where you have to stay. Every morning you choose between letting past hurt run your life or using it to build one.

Your excuses can be completely valid and still be the thing keeping you broke. I'm not saying what happened to you wasn't real. It probably was. Like, maybe your childhood was chaotic. Maybe you got betrayed by the people who are supposed to protect you. I believe you. But your pain can explain where you started. It cannot become the reason you stop because your past and your potential are like living in this same body. Every morning you get to choose which one gets to make decisions. You can keep telling the story and people are going to nod and they'll say, that makes sense. And they'll say, I understand. But understanding is not going to build the business. Sympathy is not going to pay the mortgage. The most dangerous excuse is not the weak one. It's the one that is actually true. Because when your excuse is true, people let you keep it. They're not going to push you or challenge you on it. They're just going to let you sit there wrapped in a story that is slowly stealing your future. And somewhere out there, someone has the same story, but they made a different decision. And they said, this is not going to be my ceiling. This is going to be my fuel. And so you can decide which one you want to choose.
