Codie Sanchez argues that while hard work can get you to about $1M in earnings, reaching around $10M requires becoming an owner and investing—getting "skin in the game" via money, deal structuring, and equity. She also notes that public schools typically fail to teach these paths to wealth.
You can get to a million working for somebody else, working really hard. But if you want to go to that $10 million mark, you got to do something different. What do you need to do differently? You have to get some skin in the game. This is when you have to start earning, not just with your time and brain, but also with your money. So you've got to invest in something. You've got to understand deal structuring. You've got to get a little equity in something. You've got to become an owner in some way, shape or form. It could be an owner inside of a business, but you've got to get some sort of. Of upside potential. And I think that is where the public school system kind of stops teaching us.
