Not everyone in your life is there to stay. Hard truth, people are just gonna use you. And the worst part, the more successful you get, the more they actually come. I've had partners smile across the table and then lie directly to my face, or friends who appeared just about the week that all the cash showed up and then vanished the second I got pushed out of my private equity firm. People who call it friendship but really just want you to post about them. I mean, the first time it breaks something in you because you believe that you guys were buddies. It took me way too many years and a couple painful moments to learn. Some people show up to teach you boundaries. Some show up to sharpen your gut, and some exist just to show you the difference between the people who need you and the people who value you. So I think the test that I use now is people who actually value you in their lives, they're the ones who are there when you're down. They actually don't want anything from you. And the ones you got to be careful about are the ones who show up when you're the cool kid on top, when you're winning. And don't let yourself get bitter. Bitter is letting them use you twice. And when you stop being susceptible to being used, then there's actually only room for the right people.
