Codie Sanchez breaks down how to cut waste from your work using a three-step framework: remove steps that don't generate revenue, document what's left in a five-minute video, then automate. She cites Elon Musk pushing engineers to solve a months-long problem in 24 hours by stripping away unnecessary complexity.

Elon Musk has the best formula for getting things done, and you can steal his homework. A group of engineers actually told him a change would take somewhere between 6 months and a year. He asked them to then turn around the plane they were on, go to the actual place where the problem was, and they solved it in 24 hours. A lot of problems feel complicated because complexity protects people from being questioned. Like more meetings, more software. Before you add any of that, use this formula. I like to think about it like a 3-step staircase. 1, you're going to cut. 2, you're going to standardize. 3, you're going to automate. First, what are we cutting? Every step that doesn't actually make you more money or improve the result. Then you're going to standardize what remains. Record one short video explaining 3 things: why this process exists, what a successful result looks like, and the few rules that actually matter. Then you're going to run the bored teenager test. Could you, a bored teenager, watch a 5-minute video and execute whatever it is correctly? If no, you don't have a process yet. And the last thing we're going to do is send that video to our person who's going to automate it because Software makes a bad process happen faster. It doesn't make it better. So we're gonna cut, standardize, automate. This is all on page 237 of my new book. I'll teach it to you live September 18th, Own or Be Owned.
