Codie Sanchez argues that focus beats intelligence. Most founders keep a to-build list of exciting ideas that keeps them poor. Instead, create a not-to-build list: every idea you refuse to pursue. Find the one dot that solves a customer problem and makes money. Everything else drains resources from it.

Real truth, you can beat people smarter than you just by being more focused than they are. This is actually the most profitable thing I do in any of my companies. Let me explain so you can steal it. I like to think about it like every person has a to-build list. It's long, it's exciting, and it's why most people never make the money they want to. Harsh truth though, if your to-build list is bigger than your not-to-build list, which is usually how people's are, you're leaving money on the table. It should actually be inverted. Like in here is everything that you could build and potentially want to build. But this dot, this little dot is what actually solves your customer's problem, what actually makes you money. Everything else that you build in here looks like progress but quietly starves this dot. So instead, steal this. Every idea we don't want to pursue gets written down in what I call the not-to-build list. The not-to-build list is like your parking lot because amateurs collect ideas, owners collect nos. Rich owners are just poor owners who learned to say no to more things.
