An entrepreneur describes the lie founders tell at networking events and dinners: "Everything's great" when they're actually struggling to make payroll. The pressure to project success keeps people isolated with their financial fears.
Chapters
One of the worst feelings as an entrepreneur is pretending that everything's okay when it's actually not. You go out to a networking event or out for dinner with friends, and you get there and everyone says, "How's your business doing?" And you're like, "Everything's great." Yet your spouse is sitting next to you at the dinner table going, "We can't afford payroll. We can barely afford the gas to get to this function." And you are saying everything is great. At the end of the day, this is a really hard thing for most entrepreneurs. You know, we're not really lying to ourselves. We're just sometimes really embarrassed about the situation.
