In this candid monologue, the speaker recounts how the relentless pursuit of building his business eroded his marriage and family life. He describes coming home frustrated, taking emotional out‑bursts on his spouse and children, and missing pivotal moments such as his daughters' first steps. The narrative highlights the emotional abuse—though not physical—that can arise when entrepreneurs vent work stress on loved ones. He emphasizes that spouses and children provide essential emotional support, even when they question cash flow or business decisions. The speaker concludes with a warning to other entrepreneurs: prioritize and protect family relationships, avoid emotional abuse, and recognize that losing those relationships makes the entrepreneurial journey far more difficult.

Building my business cost my marriage in so many ways. I want to share this with you because I think this will really help you. You know, one of the things, yeah, I see people do is they come home, they're frustrated, they've had a long day at the office, or maybe they come from their basement or home office. And of course, the person that supports them the most, their spouse, is the one that takes the most of the abuse. And because you're angry, because you're frustrated, because you had a terrible day, or you didn't win a sale, or whatever the situation might be. And of course, your kids get up the same kind of thing as well. I watch my daughters, you know, go through so much. At the same time also, I never saw either one of my two daughters walk. I never saw them take their first step because I was so busy building businesses and doing what I wanted to do at the sacrifice of my own life and the sacrifice of their lives as well. So I want you to think about this for your business as well. What are you doing to really drive things forward? Remember, your spouse and your kids are the ones that support you the most. They give you the support you need, the emotional support, the emotional guidance you need as you grow your business. And yeah, sometimes they don't sound that so supportive. They might be giving you a hard time about where the cash is and how things are going to work out. But at the end of the day, don't abuse, you know, when I say abuse, not physically, even emotionally. Don't abuse your spouse and your kids because they are the ones that help you get there. They're the ones you're doing this for. Don't lose them on that journey because that's a much tougher journey to go down.
