Colin Sprake learned from billionaire mentors that most people approach mentorship wrong. Instead of asking for advice, ask what the mentor needs and offer to help first. Then be specific about what you want to learn, like Facebook ads or Instagram marketing, not vague business guidance.

I've been blessed to be. I've been mentored by many, many billionaires, multi billionaires that have supported me on my journey. And I've been able to do the same thing for other people. I have mentored many, many millionaires, DECA millionaires as well. And there's one thing that I'm going to tell you that changed my world around mentorship and that is not what you think it is. Most people, when they find a mentor or they ask someone to mentor them, it's all about getting how can I get from this person? How can I get this advice? Number one, your most important thing to do when you meet a mentor is to ask them what is their most urgent need right now and how can you help them? Jack Canfield, I sat down with him, I said, jack, what's your most urgent need right now? And he said, colin, no one's ever asked me that. He said, I'm launching my success principles version 2. Would you do some social media love for me? I said to him, jack, I can do that for you. I just don't have a huge social media following. He said, colin, I don't care. You said to me you'd do something for me. And, and from that day onwards, we built a great relationship. This is the key piece, number one, always offer them to do something for them before you start. And when you look for a mentor, the most important piece, be very specific about what you're looking for. Can you mentor me in business is not mentorship. Can you mentor me on how to do Facebook ads? Can you mentor me on how to do social media, let's say on Facebook or Google or Instagram, whatever. Be specific in what you're asking for. But before you do anything, don't go with a get attitude, go with a giving attitude to the potential mentor.
