In this motivational monologue, a seasoned business coach (nearly 30 years of experience) identifies a common hidden struggle among entrepreneurs he calls “business prison.” He explains that once a business reaches a certain level of success, it can begin to dominate the owner’s time, emotions, and energy, leading to resentment and loss of enjoyment despite the financial necessity of the venture. The speaker argues that the root cause is a loss of personal alignment with the original purpose that sparked the business. By revisiting the initial motivations and re‑establishing that alignment, entrepreneurs can make their businesses feel lighter, restore enjoyment, and improve overall life satisfaction. He urges listeners to reflect on their own situation, consider what could bring back joy, and take steps to realign their purpose with daily operations.

I have finally figured out the one thing after doing this for 30 years that make most entrepreneurs so miserable, and it's not what you think it will be. I've been training, coaching, mentoring business owners for nearly 30 years. And one of the most important things that I've noticed is how many business owners get themselves into what I call business prison, where they get this business to a certain level of success. And then it just demands their time, demands them emotionally, demands them in every way and form. And eventually, they don't even enjoy the business anymore. They start to resent the business. But now they realize the business is the thing that keeps them going, that keeps the income coming in. And of course, now they've got to keep customers happy and they've got to keep them satisfied and everything else. And at the same time, they're not enjoying the business anymore. And it makes them more and more miserable. I call that business prison, where you feel like you're locked in and you cannot get out in any way or form. The thing to do is to really find your true alignment inside of you. Once you find your alignment of why you're doing what you're doing, go back to the day that you decided to start the business and get that alignment working for you again. Your business will become so much lighter. And I really mean that. I want you to think about this for yourself because I do see so many business owners that get themselves into business prison and then they run like that for a long time and they just wish it would stop, but they need the business because they need the income, but they don't enjoy it anymore. Think about it for yourself. What can bring the enjoyment back? What can make things different for you in every way and form in your business to really get your alignment in place so your business can feel lighter and you can start to enjoy life again?
