Bill Gates says AI will solve climate change and poverty, but the speaker argues current systems are built on historical data by left-brain engineers. AI needs philosophers and ethicists alongside engineers to reflect humanity's best values, not just replicate the past.

I'm fascinated at the way we're treating AI like a messiah or savior figure. We're resting all of our hopes and dreams in these systems. Bill Gates recently said that AI is going to help us solve climate change and poverty and education and health. And I think it can help us to solve these problems, but it needs to be designed to reflect the highest and most aspirational kind of version of humanity. And it's currently not being designed that way. It's currently being designed and trained on on data that reflects the past. And these systems are also being designed by people who are very much left-brained. So that's why I think it's important to bring in people who are more right-brained— AI philosophers, ethicists— to work alongside of engineers and product managers to design these systems.
