Short interview (Courtney Moeller with Ray Trevino of Pecos Operating) discussing how the new administration and 'drill baby drill' rhetoric may affect independent oil-and-gas operators. Trevino says regulatory relief could benefit independents in Texas, but infrastructure (including electricity, wind/solar integration and aging oil/gas/coal systems) needs rebuilding; Pecos plans to continue vertical drilling in North Texas (Fort Worth Basin) and expand toward the Permian edge in 2025–2026.
Hi, I am here with Ray Trevino from Pecos Operating and we got a couple questions we're going to ask him now that we have a new administration and Trump keeps talking about drill baby drill. How do you think that's going to impact your plans for 2025?
We were actually talking about that off script a little while ago for the independents out there, especially in Texas. We're very excited really that we're going to see some of the regulations go down. You know, our drilling ventures for 2025, 2026 really hasn't changed as much as some of the larger companies that we're seeing out here because they're more on and in those areas, you know, they got to really work with the Bureau of Land Management to hopefully get something done. But also with Drill baby drill, they also mean build baby build. We've heard about the infrastructure, right. We want it to be now electricity, meaning wind and solar. We don't have that kind of infrastructure.
Right.
Let alone we still have 100-year-old oil and gas coal infrastructure that still needs to be rebuilt with more oil, probably a lot more natural gas in the future as well.
Well, what are you excited about for this next year then?
We're excited we're going to continue to drill in North Texas. It was old fashioned vertical wells. When we look at the verticals, they really are just able to add a little bit more consistency. So we're going to continue in the good old prolific Fort Worth Basin and then also probably get a little bit further west right on the edge of the Fort Worth Basin where the Permian Basin start, really just kind of again continuing some of these legacy fields and assets as we continue in 25 and into 2026.
Thank you so much for taking the time.
Well, thank you Courtney and best of luck and keep doing what you're doing.
