So, as I mentioned before, multiple US federal agencies were hit by a cyber attack. I'm going to try to explain the situation as fast and as simply as possible. Hi, my name is Caitlin. I'm a cybersecurity and data protection expert and I want to help you understand cybersecurity in the news. Let's go. The attack happened because a widely used program called MoveIt got exploited. What does that mean? So Move it is a file transfer system, basically a way for the government to securely, at least they thought securely send files to and from each other. But MoveIt had a zero day vulnerability. A zero day vulnerability is a software flaw that the developers slash owners of that software are not made aware of until the attacker starts attacking and exploiting that vulnerability. And it's called zero day because basically there's zero days for the owners and the developers to find a patch or a solution for that flaw. Now, these hackers, they think are Russian, but again, we don't want to make any speculation. They also don't know what was actually explained.
