A brief, tongue-in-cheek monologue by Caitlin Sarian describing stereotypes and common perceptions about working in cybersecurity—job market claims ("over 550,000 open jobs"), attire (sweatpants and hoodies), common requests (recover hacked Instagram), focus on certifications and programming languages, Raspberry Pi references, and use of acronyms.
We're in cybersecurity. Everyone's scared that we're gonna hack into their iPhone. We're in cybersecurity. They say that there's over 550,000 open jobs, but no one seems to be able to get an entry level job. We're in cybersecurity. When we talk about Raspberry PI, we're not talking about PI. We're in cybersecurity. Our work outfit is sweatpants and a hoodie. We're in cybersecurity. Everyone always asks if we can recover their hacked Instagram. We're in cybersecurity. Our love language is what certs did you get? And how many languages do you know? We're in cybersecurity. We love making up random acronyms to seem cool.
