Your personal information is on the dark web right now. So how and why do they have your info? And how do we even stop them? Hi, I'm Caitlin. I'm a cybersecurity and data protection expert and I want to help you delete your data online. Let's go. Data brokers are companies that collect your personal information, name, address, phone number, even shopping habits, etc. And they sell it to advertisers, scammers, and whoever else is the highest bidder. Before we continue, be sure to hit that follow button. These companies scrape your data from places like public records, social media, and even apps that you've signed up for. If it's out there publicly, they're grabbing it. Here is why It's a big problem. 1. Identity theft. Hackers can use your info to open bank accounts and credit cards in your name. 2. Stalking and harassment. Someone can literally find your home address with a quick Google search. Three Scams. The more they know about you, the easier it is for scammers to target you. Ever wonder why you get so many scam texts? Because your phone number is out there and leaked. Here are three things that you can do to start protecting yourself. One is opt out of data broker sites. I actually have an entire series on this that teaches you how to opt out, so go check it out too. This is my favorite. This is what I do is use a data removal service. It always felt so overwhelming for me to do this all manually and there are services that can automate this process for you. I personally use Entrust Incogni, the screenshot of the email they send me once a month showing all the data they deleted. Comment Incogni and I'll send you the link. 3 is to lock down your digital footprint. Just be mindful of what you share online and avoid oversharing on social media like and follow for more cybersecurity tips and be sure to share this with a friend.
