UX Insider: Product Hunt's Weekly Roundup - Episode #4 (6 - 12 Jan. 2025)

In this episode Daniel Andor from Duran continues his series of Product Hunt weekly round‑ups, walking through the most‑voted products from Jan 6‑12 2025 and critiquing them from a user‑experience and product‑design perspective. He demos five tools – Weejik (an AI‑generated website theme), Sagefood (AI agents for stock‑market analysis), 21st Dev (a component marketplace), AI Follow‑ups by Folk (a CRM‑style follow‑up drafting tool), and TopView 2.0 (AI product‑avatar generator). For each product he explores the landing page, onboarding flow, UI elements such as hover states, CTAs, credit/upgrade mechanics, responsiveness, and interaction quirks. He notes where designs are clean or polished, where navigation is confusing, where credit consumption is opaque, and where visual feedback is missing. Throughout he extracts practical insights – the value of prompt templates for AI tools, the importance of clear onboarding steps, consistent CTA hierarchy, responsive design, and transparent credit systems – that viewers can apply to improve their own products. The episode ends with a brief recap and invitation to the next roundup.

Hi, Daniel here from Duran, and first of all, Happy New Year. We will continue our video series of top products from Product Hunt and checking what are the most voted products from the last week. We will just go through them and try to analyze them as well as possible from the UX and product side of views and extract some of the insights and learnings that some of you maybe can use in improving their own products. So let's get things started. First, it's Weejik, your first AI website theme. Okay, let's open the website. What's interesting here is this, this thing that follows the mouse. It's an interesting effect for sure. And as you can see, you can chat and you can prompt. They have the website quite clean otherwise. You have these nice animations and interactions and some videos here. You can start chatting from anywhere, which is quite interesting. I assume these are some examples that you can start from, supposedly. Yeah, looks like it. Okay. And yeah, a lot of comments here, I assume from Twitter or X. You can drag around. Okay. Yep. Let's start with this, right? Create a design studio. Website. For a split second, you could see there were a couple of options that you can start with, which is also a very good idea whenever you have to prompt to help people get started. Because people are still not used to prompting and writing, they might need some help. So giving them these options is definitely a big plus. Oh, something went wrong. Okay, let's just try again. Okay, and straight from here, I have to sign up, and now they just land you in an onboarding part, which is not a bad idea. You can click between these 2, but what's a bit weird is that what was before this, it's just nowhere to see, and it might be a bit confusing, like what happened with, with what I started to work on, right? Okay, so let's just go through the questions for now. Why are you building Websites for, let's say, clients. We don't really do websites, but it's fine. What kind of work you do? We do design, but it's mostly UX design. Your role, let's go with executive. Have you created any website before? Yes, I have. And create unique websites now. Okay, so from this point on, yeah, they continue from where I started before. And I have this upvoting and downvoting, and I don't necessarily know. Have you got one in mind or would you like some suggestions? Creative Canvas. I don't know what these mean, so they, they are here as options, but honestly, I have no clue what's this. Let's go with Visionary Studio, whatever is that. It might— oh, it's a name. Okay, sorry, it's a name. My bad. Could you let me know what type of websites you're looking to create? It's like like. Let's go with personal portfolio. And yeah, we go with English, don't speak the other 2 options. Okay, and okay, let's start generating, see how it goes. This small animation looks quite cute, actually. Another thing I— why— well, this takes some time, probably. This upgrade option here straight in the main area looks interesting. Actually, I suppose it helps with conversion. Because you have 70 points or credits. Probably you kind of eat these up really fast. Okay, and we have this, which is not bad. It's not necessarily something I would expect. I actually tried out the tool before and what they generated before for— it was still a design studio, but it was something, some different kind of design studio. It was one of the prompts they just sent over. It looks somewhat similar to this. It has the same type of buttons, same type of fonts. Also, the colors are more similar. So, it looks like they have this kind of pattern that they use. Okay. And you can chat to edit, right? Okay. We don't need any more credits at this stage. And from this point on, they are prompting on what to do. So, they write this ad. X and LinkedIn icons below. Okay, let's try this out. This automatically cuts back, I assume, on the, on the credits. You can see I have 30 now instead of 70, and they will add X and LinkedIn icons below the main button. And there are a couple of tips of what you can say and how it works. And here you have— you can upload or draw, and these are the other pages. Oh, sections. Sorry, they are not pages. They are part of the same page sections. But adding these icons takes quite some time. The last time when I tried it, it was kind of the same setup. It also took quite some time to add the X and LinkedIn icons, and it was the same prompt as well. Okay, in the meantime, we can like explore a bit. So you have these theme options and font options that you can change. Go with something a bit on the green side. We have a lot of green on our website. The number of fonts actually for the header, they are not a lot, they are quite, quite a few. And for the body, it's, it's the same. So they have just a couple of selected fonts I assume that they use for now. And can you do anything here, like make this bold? Let's see if that works. Yeah, and sometimes this is the struggle. Oh, So I don't know what even, what are the changes. So because they flickery, it flickers and then it's really hard to notice what changed honestly, at least for me. It looks like it's the same thing. Okay, so very easy things that like I just wanted to create, to change this into like a bold version of it. It didn't really work. Let's just put this here, see. And even this— oh God. So it's not— it's definitely not the easiest tool to use for now. It's an interesting approach for sure, but like here I just want to change this text. Can I just— oh, so if you click once or how it works, I've selected. Yeah, so somehow you can select it and just write in it, but honestly I have no clue how. So there are definitely stuff that should be improved to make it easier to use. Otherwise, you can just like use up all your credits. Like I have zero credits now for these kind of changes. Okay, I also have an AI avatar. Cool. Maybe later for this. And let's see if I can go out of this. Unpublished. I can also publish it. You can add a custom domain which needs to be upgraded too. That makes sense. You can preview it here and let's see on the mobile. Oh, now it works on the mobile. Somewhat works here. This part looks a bit weird, but kind of this is the outcome, which is not that bad, but making changes to this, it's a bit challenging, honestly. And can I go out of this and like maybe create a new one? I'm not sure how. Okay, so this is basically how you can get to that point. This— oh, sorry— this very small thing here, which is not that easy to find. So yeah, that's it for WeJig. Let's try another one. We have Sagefood, agents for stock market analysis. Okay, this is the website. As you can see, there is not a lot of stuff. We have a Get Started button without any hover states. No hover states, no hover states. For Explore Markets, they have a hover state, but it makes it just even more challenging to read. Then they list down what the product does. Here you have another Get Started for Free, which is a bit weird that they— here they have the secondary CTA instead of going with the green one. Sign Up, Leverage AI, Optimize, and so on. Get in Touch. For asking a question, they went for the first CTA instead of the secondary one. And here, sign up today, it's again the first one. No hover states for these as well. Okay, let's see how this works. You have to add your email, you have to pick the purpose, email, then okay, continue. Oh, setting the password. Password done. Okay, but it didn't work. For some reason, try again. Now it worked. They have to send over code. Let's get the code. Okay, here is the verification code. As you can see, the the email itself is very very simple. So we have this code. We put it here. Keep me signed in and verify. And this is it. This is the tool. Oh, they have a short warning. At least it's not that short actually. They have nine steps. You can close it, you can snooze it, access real-time insights on— okay, let's see what they have in plan for us. View stocks, load the full list of the top gainers. And here they don't have any buttons, so I can't go forward from this point on. Now I just have to close this one, right? Load the full list of the gainers, or view all. Yeah, looks like that's it. Okay, we will close this one and then you can go back and what are the other stuff that you can do? Oh, here are the agents. So you have this as the default one. You can ask questions, create watchlists, you can have new chats if you want. Okay, let's go. They have also their own Under Sage Foods Radar. Okay, let's try this. So let's see what this tool can do. You can see it is somewhat similar to ChatGPT style, just the discussions there. And in a way it has the same challenges as any chat-based AI agent or GPT or whatever, that I have to ask the questions without not knowing what would be a good question. In this case, and you can see it kind of just stays and thinks. Let's see what are the outputs. Okay, so here's the output. They have financial overview, okay, which is good. Value metrics, industry and growth prospects, market sentiment, and conclusion, which is quite helpful actually. It gives you an overview. I'm not a financial advisor, so it's really hard to say if this is correct or not. But it's good to have like an overview of how things are. And if— oh, and you can start basically another chat if you want. And they have different agents. So they have news, Sagehood, technical, and so on. Okay, this is an interesting tool. Doesn't look the shiniest, whatever, with these very old styled drop shadows. And it looks like a lot of stuff happening sometimes. And also, if you remember, the onboarding didn't really work. It went up to the 3rd step or something and then it just got stuck there. I'm not sure what these scores are, so it would be maybe helpful to have an explanation of that, or how— at least how they get to the score. But yeah, other than that, it's interesting. The website was was also a bit unpolished, so it would be worth investing there too. But yeah, that's it with SageHood. Let's try another one. 21st Dev. Be in my ballpark, but let's see how it goes. Straight from the beginning, we are greeted with this, basically a bunch of images and the pop-up, which looks very, very unpolished with this stuff here. You can skip it, you can support, you can X, Let's go with skip. So these, they have these browse components here, start on GitHub, which I don't know how visible it is. It has a slight shape on there, so it, it has, oh, and now this one. Okay, so this, both of them has like a very subtle hover state. What's a bit weird is that this main CTA, and as you can see, there is no navigation. This is the whole thing. The main button looks very, very similar to these 2 from Product Hunt. It might get some problems and people clicking on these instead of this. And also this browse components doesn't look very clickable, but yeah, let's click on it, see how it goes. So once you click, you get here, you have a bunch of components and as you can explore, some of them look quite interesting. Let's see What's this? And you have basically the code here and you can install the component, which is quite clear otherwise. Oh, and the creator as well. So they have creators too. This looks nice. They have a bunch of components that you can reuse. So I guess for somebody who's into this, they can just use it from here. But that homepage might be tricky. And you can publish components here and you can copy it. Cool. Let's go for another one. AI Follow-ups by Folk. I used Folk some time ago for, for storing contacts and basically it, it's a CRM. It looks interesting, but in the end ended up with, with Notion for at least for now, but we don't have like a lot of people. So the homepage is, it's very nice. Also, there is not a lot of details here about that one, but there is a video and I watched the video before. So they have a bunch of cool stuff here on how they can basically draft follow-ups based on meetings and stuff like that. Definitely interesting, interesting tool. Okay, let's, let's try it out, see how it goes. You can continue with Google, you can continue with emails. You can see, kind of, this is how the tool looks. As you can see, you can filter and create different views. Let's go for it. Okay, so this is the onboarding part. You have to fill out your name, company name. Let's go with startups for now. Your company size. Okay, how many teammates will be using? It's just me. It looks like the tool can do a lot of stuff at this stage. Okay, I'll just do the copy paste. You can also add it as a Chrome extension and Save people from LinkedIn. Okay, that's good. And you can start your trial as well. Okay, let's go with the trial. Okay, and you can see here, here are the pipelines. Let's create a sample so we can take a look. And this is how everything shows up. Cool, it looks nice, looks nice. We might give it a go sometime. TopView 2.0 product avatar. Holding and showcasing your products perfectly. Okay, let's try this one for the last product for today. Okay, so you can upload images and create an AI avatar showcasing it. Okay. Oh, this is the thing that does nice. There are a bunch of examples. Now I don't really have a product, but we'll find something. Okay, I have dashboard here for— I don't know why I have dashboard here because I don't have an account yet. So it's a bit weird to have a dashboard when you don't have an account, right? And also these 2 are exactly the same color. So it should have been something like create account or create now or something like this here on top. Like you have it here and maybe sign in as a secondary CTA, but having dashboard here as a secondary, secondary CTA, it's definitely weird. Let's go with create now. Oh, the font went missing. Or something here. Basically, click Create. Oh, okay, that's just— it's a bit confusing. So you click Create Now, but instead of creating an account, it opens login. So you have to click here, Sign Up. Okay, this is the email, just the code here. Let's put the code here. Oh, verify. And now I have to set up my password. It's a bit confusing because things are changing in the same place. Instead of like moving you around. Also, you have the background, which is like a lot of things moving. As you can see, the video, it's autoplayed in the background, so it grabs your attention. Okay, so they say that— okay, this is the list of the avatars, and you can pick one avatar. What they say is that it matches your product size, so someone has to match the product size. Let's go with this one. Replace my product image. So it can be white, it can be colored, but it shouldn't be like these. Okay, ours is white. We have an iPhone on a white background, so it should be fine. Now they removed the background image, and there is it. And we have to replace it, I assume, like this to cover our Right, okay, but can we like— this is for changing the image, and what's this? Adjusting the image, and you can also, you can make it smaller and bigger, that's right. Can you do like just and rotate, but you can just like drag corners. Okay, let's go with this, see how it goes. For some reason I have 3 options or 3 versions on the screen. They will output 3 versions probably because they say choose the perfect image. So I assume they will output 3 and then I have to pick the one that's the best for what I need and then we go to step number 4. Okay, we have the outputs. I don't know, this or this, what's the difference? Let's go with this for some reason. It's definitely not image to video. Okay. Okay, we are almost done. 92%. It takes some time, but they also mentioned that it might, it might take some time. Okay, let's see what we have. So almost there. We are almost there now. Okay, here it is.
I'm TopView product avatar. I can hold your product with just one image. You no longer have to spend a lot of time and money searching.
Okay, you can save it, you can reanimate it. Let's go with save. Then you have to pay. Okay, but definitely interesting. It moves. It's not bad, I would say. Not bad at all. They have some tutorials. Oh, this is the same video they have on the homepage. And then you have the dashboard. With a questionnaire. Just click on it from this project. Oh, it didn't save what I created. It could be weird if they didn't save this, right? Oh, you have to click save probably there, but I didn't have that option. I clicked on it and they flipped up the pricing page. Okay, never mind. The product is interesting. It has some weird stuff around. Like the fact that I can't find the project anymore. Cool, that's it for now. Hopefully you found some interesting stuff and also some helpful stuff as well. Yeah, we meet most probably next week. Thanks. Bye.
