AMORE - AMARE - Il vero significato - Supposte di Italiano - Daniele Penna

Short video by Daniele Penna explaining and disputing a popular (new-age) etymology of the Italian word "amore". Penna argues the false claim that "amore" comes from Latin a- + mors ("without death") and instead traces the word to a Sanskrit root (kama, desire), through an Indo-European root ka and Greek mao, arriving at Latin amor/amare meaning visceral, physical desire (primarily sexual). He contrasts this with Latin diligere (related to eligere) for a more elective/spiritual love, and offers a colloquial reading: "ti amo" = strong physical desire plus an election of exclusivity.
