Danielle Ralston breaks down why people with ADHD struggle with productivity, from chasing shiny new apps and courses to losing track of tasks once they get distracted. The real problem isn't laziness, it's how ADHD brains jump between things and forget what they were doing.

We're talking about ADHD and productivity. Some of the things that really affect the ADHD productivity is shiny object syndrome. How many people see a new app, a new program, a new course, you go all in on it and you dive into it and you learn every freaking thing about it. The new pretty planner. That planner is gonna be the thing that is gonna make me more organized and help me do all of the things and I'll remember to use it. And then you use it for a week and it goes away and ends up in the pile. You're like, but I stayed laser focused. I learned all of the things on that shiny object. Well, yeah, because your hyperfocus is like the bomb. We hyperfocus on the wrong things, and then when our train gets derailed, we can't get back on track. We have a hard time remembering what it was we should have been doing, or we don't even know what we should have been doing in the first place. So we get really, really lost in that whole entire process.
