Danielle Ralston argues that schools fail students with ADHD, not the other way around. Drawing on her own experience with IEPs and accommodations, she pushes back against blaming neurodivergent students and promotes ND Hive, a neurodivergent-led network offering practical strategies and tools.

Hot take: students with ADHD aren't actually bad at school. It's schools that are bad at ADHD. Now, of course I want schools to change. I really, really do. But change takes a very, very, very long time. And honestly, I work with a lot of students, and I remember what it was like when I was a student with an IEP in elementary school, middle school, high school, and accommodations in college and in grad school. And Some schools make changes, and I can tell you that some schools are just the same or honestly worse. Now, instead of just fighting— and I don't want you to think that I'm against advocacy, I love advocacy and I participate in it because I believe it is necessary— but instead of only fighting, waiting, and just hoping for change, because that can take a really, really, really long time, we built something different. ND Hive isn't just a neurodivergent support network. It's built by neurodivergent minds who have already been there and done that. We share strategies, struggles, tips, and tricks, and we give you portable tools to help you manage your day-to-day inside and outside of the classroom. So if you're interested in learning more, come find us at ndhive.com. Come and knock on our door. We'll be waiting for you.
