Danielle Ralston discusses why single parents need workplace equity. Allowing work-from-home during school breaks or when kids are sick costs employers almost nothing but cuts stress dramatically. One parent describes the impossible choice between showing up to work and caring for a sick child.
But, and all of these things are equity. This is equ— these are the equity things that we're talking about. Having, uh, during school vacations, allowing single parents to work from home. And even if that's the only time they work from home is during school vacations and when their kid is sick, and that's the only accommodation that you give them.
It takes off so much stress. I, I mean, I remember the days and I worked for companies and after calling in for myself being sick and then my kid comes down sick, it's like, okay, I lose my job or I take care of my kid. And that's That's a terrible choice, especially if you're a single parent. Yeah. And I, I've, I've been there with a, with a very sick kid.
And it's a thing that really doesn't— this doesn't cost a company money. This really isn't a big deal, especially past COVID.
