Welcome everyone. This is Erin Schmidt and you're on Neo CEO podcast. I'm so excited today that I have a new friend on Danny Walsh. Danny is all the way in Scotland I believe today, right?
Close enough, close enough, close enough.
England. And he is a funnel hacker pro. He is working with ClickFunnels. There he is. He is an over deliverer of amazing genius when it comes to funnel hacking, marketing and creating amazing ways to market your services. Get people involved in what you're doing in courses in E Com and lots of places. So welcome Danny. Thanks for joining me.
Thanks. It's great to be here. I know we tried to do this before and we didn't get the chance. So I'm super excited. Looking forward to getting into this.
Yeah, me too. Yeah, we, you were here in LA for what was it? ClickFunnels Connect. And thank you for inviting me to that. That was really amazing. For those of you that don't know clickfunnels, I'm gonna let Danny describe the platform, but I was fortunate enough to go and meet some of the developers of Click Click funnels at ClickFunnels Connect and kind of peek under the hood of what's going on at ClickFunnels and ClickFunnels 2.0. So Danny, tell us a little bit first of all about ClickFunnels and what it does and then I want to get into how you got involved with ClickFunnels.
So ClickFunnels is, is my go to personally for building all things funnels, which is the easiest way to move people from A to B in your marketing. And people often build a website, right? So they have a website and they have like about me and about us and all of the things and the store and, and there's all this crazy stuff going on and visitors arrive and they're confronted by too much choice. You ever been to a website and you're like, oh, I don't know where to click funnels. Simplify that process by giving somebody one choice. You go to this, this page and it's like, hey, enter your name and email to proceed or buy this one thing and then buy the next thing and buy another thing. So funnels are great way to turn your prospective leads into customers without confusing them. And over years, 10 years in fact, ClickFunnels has evolved into being an all in one platform that can help you build, launch, scale your funnels very, very quickly. Whether you're running an E commerce business and you're selling physical goods or an expert business and you're Selling digital goods. Maybe you've got courses, maybe you're doing podcasts. Whatever it is, there's a funnel for you and ClickFunnels helps you to build, launch and scale that real quick just by dragging and dropping and using simple tools. So, super excited to be able to work with clickfunnels as well. But in terms of what does a business need to make money and get more leads online, Clickfunnels has always been my go to. So, yes, exciting.
Yeah. And before we get more into clickfunnels and how it functions and kind of what the newer features are in 2.0, tell me a little bit about growing up in the UK and what really drove you to become a marketer and get involved with clickfunnels sense.
So for me, I was always the guy that people would come to when something broke or they needed something building online or technology. And in. In the early years, you know, technology was emerging. I'm not that young right now, so I'm like, oh, man, I can think.
Back to me either my hair is growing up.
We all wanted to be DJs and musicians and rappers and stuff. And we realized quite quickly that to be successful in the music industry, especially in the uk, we would need to put our music out there somewhere. And the obvious thing was, you know, are you going to go and press this on vinyl? That was super expensive. But thankfully we had the Internet just starting to emerge. It was before, you know, things like what we're doing the podcast on right now, and it's before YouTube and before Facebook. We would be able to get our message out there if. If we could build a website. Right. And everyone was building websites at the time. And we sort of shopped around and spent some money that we probably shouldn't have done. Use like parents, credit cards and all of the things. And we created this website that involved like piecing together 15 different things just to get music on there. And if you ever remember, like the dial up.
Yes. Yeah. We're dating ourselves.
You've got. You've got the dial up. More than trying to even download or upload music was a nightmare. So these websites, they were clunky. They had all of that about us and click here and store and downloads and all the different pages, they were super confusing. They cost a fortune. But that was kind of like where I started. And from there I would like fix people's computers and. And do all of the things around tech. We were always in the music business. We never had a great deal of money, so we had to Kind of figure this stuff out ourselves. And that sort of evolved into building websites for other businesses and you know, doing all the technical things, doing videos and helping people with the streaming. And one day my server crashed and there's like the server's gone and all of the customers were calling and everyone was going crazy. It's like where, what do we do? Where's our business gone? You've deleted our website. And I was trying to figure this thing out and I couldn't do it. And it was around that time that I was introduced to Russell Brunson and clickfunnels and, and I thought man, I could possibly save some of these businesses if I could just drag and drop using this dead simple click funnels thing that's just emerged. So I used somebody else's credit card that I probably shouldn't have done and I got this funnels thing and I paid my money and I managed to save 10 or 11 out of 70 websites that disappeared that day just by drag and dropping in this dead easy to use simple interface that let me create a headline on the screen and then put like an image and then maybe a video and, and then like the, the paragraphs and all the things that I needed and that saved my business. And the more I used it and the more I was invested in it and the more time I spent learning about it, the more I realized man, I could actually build an even better business using this. And I've, you know, that was nearly 10 years ago and I've never looked back.
That's so cool. I love it and I love hearing how you kind of used the program to solve your own problems in your business and how that kind of evolved. Little side note about me, I actually was using click funnels like 10 years ago and building funnels for my financial services practice. I was a financial advisor with my husband who is still a financial advisor and so we were using it that way and he had a radio show. So yeah, it's super helpful. And Now I'm using 2.0 and it's so much more intuitive. You guys have put in a lot of pre built templates that are very easy to use and so just about anybody can start and start implementing like an opt in page or a lead magnet. And I love that you guys are now building out some E commerce and some of the courses. You guys have made it very intuitive, very user friendly and I, I think that it's going to only get better from here.
Without a doubt. I think now is the best time like have ever to be using clickfunnels. And we've moved from the simple drag and drop editor and a few features as this has evolved to where we are now. This is all in one. So you can manage your appointments in there, you've got your CRM in there, you can have your courses and your blog and your website. You, you can have your store. But it's all built around the concept of like everything's a funnel, right? So no matter where your customers come into your business, you need a funnel to move them from A to B. And if you do that well, you can increase your average cart value. You can keep people in your business for longer, you can increase the amount of sales that you make over a period of time. You can communicate better and you can automate so many things like follow up emails and text messages. All of the things that people expect from, you know, the biggest businesses in the world. You can do that on a, your small business or your new business or your emerging business without having to spend like thousands bolting lots and lots of different things together. Clickfunnels give you everything out of the box. That's why I love it and be fortunate enough to work with these guys for a while now and see from behind the scenes and be involved in some of the events. It is the best time to be part of. Clickfunnels.
Yeah. And I agree, like I said, I was using it a long time ago. It was a little bit difficult to use if you weren't somebody that was really savvy. Thankfully I'd already built a bunch of websites and you know, not from scratch. I'm not a coder, I don't want to give false impressions. But you know, using Squarespace and Shopify, I've done lots of those types of websites. And so I also really love too in the 2.0 that you can, if you buy some of the programs that Russell Brunson has used, you can plug right into selling and becoming an affiliate. And not just selling a click funnels training trial, but selling different products. So I've been working on that. I haven't launched it yet. I mean it's ready to go. I just need to start marketing it. So as far as explaining to somebody the basics of what a funnel is, you know, just tell us what that means. So anybody who's listening is like, okay, what do you mean funnel? It's basically your customer's journey right through meeting you and then what do you do next? Etc.
Yeah. And if you, if you think of an actual funnel itself, a Funnel is, is very wide at the top, right? And it goes narrower and narrower as you get towards the bottom. And if you think about this in an Internet context, you have a very wide net or a very wide opening that you can get as many people to come to as possible. But if a hundred people come to your website, not every single person will perform an action on that website, right? So out of a hundred people who visit, maybe 20 will put their name and email in and sign up for something. And then out of that 20, as the funnel gets narrower, maybe 10 will buy something. And out of the 10 who buy, maybe five will go on to become a member. And out of those five, maybe one will buy your higher ticket program, which might be, you know, thousands of dollars or, or whatever. So you can funnel people into your business by inviting the masses, asking them to complete small, simple actions one thing at a time. Hey, sign up to our newsletter. Have you ever done that, right? You've been to somebody's page and you're like, ah, newsletter. And you put your name and email. You're about to enter a funnel when you put your name and email in. You start receiving emails and then all of a sudden they say, hey, would you like to try one of our free samples? And you're like, yeah, free sample. So you put your credit card in for like 8, $9 postage, whatever, right? You pay a small amount, they send you the sample. Now you're further in the funnel. You're one of the, the percentage now that's starting to move through. You try your sample and you're like, this stuff's good on the back of the, the sample pack. It's like, take a subscription box. And you're like, right? Or you can go back online or you can call the number or whatever it is. Back in the day you would fill in the form. Now you're going further into the funnel because now you've created a subscription with this company. And all that came from was them saying, hey, put your name and email into join our newsletter, right? Then they gave you the sample, then they offered you the subscription. Now you're on the subscription. They're like, hey, we've got these guys on subscription. I wonder what we could offer to these folks. And then they offer you something more expensive. You want the Christmas box package, super deluxe thing. And you know that your marketing levels can increase to the customers that are giving you more money. And you're making sure that you're maximizing the lifetime value of those customers, right? So you think, hey, we got this guy in the newsletter. And they went on to take a sample and now they're on a subscription. And then they took the, the VIP experience thing. They're gonna buy more things. So the funnel never ends. And you know, click funnels, you can keep bolting things on. It's like, hey, now we're gonna have a course or now we're going to have a store that we send them or now we're going to have, you know, more things that go out in different offers that have got upsells. So you say, hey, buy more. So the whole point of this is without confusing people and sending them to a site that's got a gazillion options, we've all been there. And you just leave, right? You send them to a simple page headline. Hey, this is the thing. Image looks, looks good. Just complete one action first. Let's just get you to take that one step.
Yeah, right, yeah. Well, I hope all my customers coming to my funnels are as enthusiastic about my products as you are. Wow, this is great.
This is, this is an interesting piece though, right? Because if you're looking at your funnel now and you're thinking, well, every time we send a hundred people to our landing page, only three join our newsletter. That means you've got a 3% opt in rate. Right. So every under three give us the, the name and email. What can we do to increase conversion to get more people to come in? How can we increase that percentage? Because percentage increments are important to business. Right. So if you had a website on one of the other mentioned platforms that's like really complicated. You've had to pay a designer and do a big bunch of stuff. How do you effectively test two versions of that to see which one is the higher converting? You can't just like pay another 1015,000 to a website company to build a whole new website just so you can test headlines. And that's where clickfunnels comes into its own, is I can make a split test. So now I'm split testing a red version and a green version. Hey, the green version gets us 5%. Right? Let's run the people to that. There's more people to that one. How do we get it to 7%? And this becomes this game of continually increasing percentages until you get something that's actually every time we send 100 people. Well, the goal is, is to get all hundred to sign up.
Right, right, that's.
And, and that's, that's the game plan. And it works very well because you're working with simple, one step at a time funnels rather than trying to overhaul your entire website thinking we don't know what's wrong. Why are people not buying my sense?
Right, Absolutely. Yeah. No, and that's always the key is how do I entice people? What do I need to offer? What's the sort of magic thing that's going to get these people to opt in? Give me their email so then I can start marketing to them and get them to eventually buy. That's something that I struggle in my business. I think every business struggles with that at some point or another. Do I offer a discount code? Do I offer a free sample? Do I offer. And I think it's, it's always multi, tiered, you know, of your big time offer, which is like a limited time. Get this like a discount or a sale. Because I'm an E Comm. It's always something that I'm trying to tweak. But I am testing some funnels right now and with opt ins and try this free, you know, skincare guide, you know, and so I know you guys are working a little more on the E. Com side as well and getting it to integrate somehow with other platforms perhaps. I actually just got a email from Rob who is in the E. Com breakout at ClickFunnels Connect and I'm going to have him on the podcast as well. And Rob, you can say who Rob is. He's one of the developers of ClickFunnels, especially on the E comm side. Right?
Yeah, 100. And we've got a great team behind the scenes who are more than happy to help, but also very willing to listen. So when we talk to business owners, it's about how do we turn that into the next thing that they need. So coming on the podcast, he could go away with one little thing. Ah, this is the thing. And they can build that into the plan. And there's lots of different ways that we interact with, with customers, which kind of. My role at Click Funnels is to try and reach out to as many people as possible and help get that information back to the places where it needs to go. Some companies, quite often you can face a brick wall, right. But we're more absorbent and we're happy to let those messages come through. It's just important that we give them to the right people. So like all this stuff coming into your business, it's got to be controlled, it's got to be managed and that's a big part of what we're doing. In the communication side. So if somebody does have a request or feedback or, you know, maybe they've got a legitimate concern or something's not quite working, we can get that feedback and we can move it real quick to the people who are going to work with that so we can improve, we can respond, we can make something new, whatever, whatever the, the needs are. You mentioned earlier the, the concepts, and I held it up on the T shirt as well. A funnel hacking. The whole funnel hacking thing is, I think, one of the most fundamental, important pieces, whatever business you're in, and that's the art of modeling what's, what's working. Right? And the cool thing with, with clickfunnels is you can open your editor on one screen and then on another screen you can go and find a competitor that's doing really well. If they've got a blue background, you can create a blue background. They've got an image on the left and a form on the right. You can have an image on the left and a form on the right. If they've got three things underneath. With testimonials, you can build that too. So you can model, don't copy, but you can model what the competitors are doing in any industry and have a very similar funnel up and running very, very quickly with similar structured offers that those customers are kind of trained to purchase. And when you do that right, it increases your odds of getting more people into your funnel, more people buying. And then the way that we structure this is it gives you the ability to have one click upsells. So on the next page it's like, hey, you got the burger? Do you want fries with that? Does that make sense? And then people are, I need the fries. Click the button. Do you need the, the drink with that? Yeah, I need the drink. And you gradually give them more and more and more and they're like, yeah, hopefully come out with a big basket full of things. Right. So the art of the funnel, funnel hacking, click funnels, all of these things. It's not just a website builder. It's. It's a way of life. And you literally are one funnel away from whatever you could imagine, whether that's the dream lifestyle, the laptops lifestyle, you know, money for you, for your family, know, better business, whatever it is, you one funnel away. And that's why I love it so much.
Yeah, I love that concept too. It's, you know, like Gary Vee, you're one post away so from going viral and everybody wanting to work with you. Same with that. Yeah. Every business can be transformed with just the right tweak and marketing message. I've seen that in my own business too. And tell us. I know there's some amazing events, you guys, you always have online events that people can tap into, courses, live streams. But I, I don't think I'm going to be able to come. I don't know. Rob was asking me if I'm going to come too. Now I'm like, oh, I have fomo. Funnel Hacking Live is happening in Las Vegas, which I actually grew up in Las Vegas, of all places. I was born. I know, right? I was born in Massachusetts. My parents moved me over there when I was five and it's kind of an odd place to grow up, but I turned out normal for the most part. So, yeah, it sounds like an incredible event. You can tell people about that and how they might still be able to get a ticket.
Yep. So all the details, funnelhacking live.com we're estimating, I think like thousands of people, up to potentially 10,000 people in attendance. Normally we have a massive event. Tony Robbins is going to be there. There's a big bunch of speakers. All the details, funnel hacking live.com I think there are still tickets available at the time of recording. They do move fast, especially on the run up to the event. This is 12th of February through 15th of February and it's at Caesar's Forum in Las Vegas. They've got the hotels connected to that and all the things. So you've got everything within like walking distance. Caesar's forum. 100%. It'll be amazing and can't wait to see you there. Yeah.
Well, ask the team. Why in the world would you guys put that on Valentine's Day?
We've had people get married at fun lacking life. The honeymoon, fun lacking life. Like, Vegas is the place. Right.
So I'm sure, yeah, if you didn't work, if you didn't grow up, there it is. Yeah. But no, I have a lot of friends there still, and I. I definitely could go and hang out, but I would be in Red Rock after everything. Not gambling. So tell us how people can connect with you and if they want to work with you, how they can find that and hire you to build their funnels for them.
