Cold Knocking Businesses As A Small Company (We Made $1,300)

Darren and Matthew from Howdy Media cold-knocked local businesses to sell ten 40-second video slots at $200 each for their "Best of Abilene" series. They landed six sales on day one and made $1,300, pitching drone footage and interviews against typical $2,000-$5,000 video costs.

All right, y'all, today I'm going to be taking you guys, um, along a journey that is a new project that we've come up with. We're going to start doing these videos. It's going to be targeting like more community-driven companies, um, and we're trying to— this, this project is basically going to be the best businesses of Abilene. And so for the end of 2024, it's going to be the top 10 businesses of Abilene, and we're going to showcase each business using our video cameras, doing little brand stories over them. And look at this rig right now. Can you just like admire this for a second? Oh my God, if we walk into your business looking like this, you cannot tell me you're not going to want to buy a slot in this video. Highlight Videos, and what they're going to be able to do is buy a slot. We have 10 slots, um, we were able to sell— I think we sold 6 of them today. And we're probably gonna sell out by the end of the week, which is a great sign. We're wanting to do this thing like every month. We're gonna do like, from here on out, it's gonna be like top 3 businesses of January, top 3 businesses of February. It's also a good way for us to get in front of these companies, these business owners, and just show them a little bit about what we can do, what we can offer, and the value that we could provide. Boom! Throw some drone shots, get a nice twirl shot. Ooh, merch! I'm gonna get that shelf. And so yeah, this video is going to be open, it's going to be real. You're going to see rejections, you're going to see the yeses. I think we forgot to record the biggest yes, unfortunately. But no, it was a good time. We only spent 4 hours going from business to business. We were able to film one of them today. All the others were having to reschedule for a different day this week. Some this weekend. But this is just one of those things that you don't know until you try it. And being this type of company, being video production company, this is a great way to get in the door with businesses. So if you're running something like this, like definitely like try to do this in your local area. Good morning.
Good morning. Good, how are you?
Can I help you?
Yeah, so what we're doing, we're with Howdy Media and we're a video production company in the area, and what we're doing is a, like, a city spotlight video, and I wanted to see if you guys were, like, had any level of interest of being featured on it.
Um, this is our branch manager, and do you want to speak to him?
Yeah, sure.
If y'all end up making a decision, we can do it today, or we can schedule out another time. Okay.
Yeah. Is it going to be, like, just on YouTube?
Uh, media platform?
Yeah. So the plan is to put it on all the platforms so that way we can get, like, as much traction as as possible so we can bring people to these local businesses.
Okay, appreciate it guys. Thanks for coming in.
Yes, amen.
You have a good one.
All right, appreciate it.
Thank you.
Yep, got the email.
That's dope. Yeah, I know. Now we got to make a pamphlet.
Yeah, we gotta make a freaking— I'm not making a pamphlet.
I'll make it. Uh, so my name is Matthew, this is Darren. We're a company called Howdy Media. And I wanted to see— what we're doing is a city spotlight video. It's like a best of Abilene kind of thing. And I wanted to see if you guys were possibly had any interest in like being a part of it and being featured in the video.
I think we would be. I'm not too sure, but all of our managers are on our other location up on Highway 277.
Okay.
Our general manager, our site manager, all of our managers are over there.
And you probably have some success because there's not a lot of people willing to go out there and just like talk to people face to face. I personally need to do that more, which is why I'm doing this, but I've gotten most of my business from referrals and from social media up to this point. And so I'm really trying to like expand the ways we get leads.
We're Howdy Media. We're a video production company in Abilene. And what we're doing is we're putting together a video video. Like, it's a best of Abilene video, best businesses in Abilene. And another thing is you'll get all of the photos.
Cool.
So that way you guys can use it. Yeah, you guys put it up on your, on your website, you can put it on your Instagrams and stuff like that.
So I know the value of all this, and I could probably get him more value just on my page, but I refuse to do so because I don't believe in pimping myself out. Yeah, somebody's gonna pay a lot of money. So yeah, I, I I know the value of this, so yeah, I will make sure to hit him. Yeah, it helps your SEO and it gives your website identity and personality.
I love that.
Win-win. Yeah, so video helps everything in our opinion.
No, it really does. It really does.
Appreciate your time today.
Thank you.
We're starting to use CRMs, which if you don't know what a CRM is, I think it stands for like client relationship management software. Um, there's some free ones that we've been testing out, but just doing that and following up and being consistent in that, I haven't been able to do all that as a one-man show just because I don't physically have enough time during the day to be able to do all the sales, do all the follow-up, provide the product. Like, it's just a lot. And if you own a business of this capacity where you do creative work in any way, like you know how much it can be. And we're just now starting to get to the point, and this is 3 years in, I want to remind you this is 3 years in, that we're able to have people on our team and outsource some of this stuff that have these strengths and these strong suits of like selling and talking to people. And everybody has to know how to do it. Some people are better at it than others, and I'm just trying to grow in all areas. Um, and it's gonna be— it's a cool idea because these companies who usually wouldn't be able to spend $2,000 to $5,000 on a normal, like, video production shoot, which is like probably an average shoot for what we do, like a commercial or something. They can buy these slots and they can only spend $200, but they're going to get high production, high value. They're just not going to get very much time. And so that's how we kind of lined it up is you get the most time for the first 3 slots, you get like 40 seconds. And we'll shoot, we'll do like an interview with you, do the drone footage thing, get some B-roll, and you'll claim that best restaurant or best business of that niche in Abilene for that year. I hope you enjoy watching this video. If you want to see more of this, leave it in the comments and we're totally down to keep doing it. We're at 842 subscribers. Shout out to our subscribers. It's kind of crazy. Um, We're trying to hit 1,000 and we're getting dang close. And so I'm pumped to see where we're going to be even a year from now. Um, it's going to be cool. But thanks for watching. Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already and to follow along this journey. Um, be watching for upcoming videos. See you guys later.
Oh, oh, oh.
