Get BETTER At Talking On Camera In Only 2 Minutes (Without A Script)

Scripts make you sound robotic on camera. Instead, memorize 3-4 word bullet points and deliver them in one take while looking directly at the lens. Practice recording imperfect takes to build comfort and authenticity.

Today I'm going to be teaching you how to make your videos sound not scripted. And well, spoiler alert, don't script them. So one of the biggest mistakes that I see in business owners who are wanting to get into the content game, what they'll do is they'll write out word for word a 2-page essay of what they want to say, and then they're like, okay, how do I set this up so I can read it while I'm looking at the camera? And I'm like, how about let's start over and let's make bullet points of the summaries. Memorize the bullet points if you have to, go one bullet point at a time, but make sure to talk to the camera directly. Don't read anything and take that few extra minutes of learning and memorizing the material that you want to communicate to the audience. And ultimately, while the whole reason you're doing this is to communicate and build that authority, build that trust, build that relationship. With the audience, and you can't do that if it looks like you're reading out of a textbook. So next time you make content, make— next time you sit down to batch create all of your stuff, make sure to take all of your ideas, summarize it, put it into 3 or 4 words, make each bullet an outline of 4-word bullets, 4-word bullet points all the way down, and then memorize that. If you need to, go bullet point by bullet point, and you can edit the other parts out. But ideally, if you can do it in one take, it's gonna feel the most natural, it's gonna feel the most real. And like always, and like with anything, practice makes perfect. So if you feel uncomfortable in front of a camera, get in front of a camera. And it might suck at the beginning, but you might as well suck when nobody's watching. And so when people start watching, you're good. So there's my encouragement for the day. Make sure to develop bullet points, develop an outline, and memorize it instead of typing up a whole entire script.
