How To Get More Clients With Simple Videos! (One Step)

In this solo presentation, Darren from Howdy Media explains how to use short, personalized video messages as an outbound outreach tool to win new clients. He first contrasts inbound video content (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook) that relies on algorithms and mass exposure with outbound video outreach—cold DMs or emails that include a custom video for a specific prospect. Darren walks through a sample script he uses for attendees of a free social‑media training event, emphasizing the importance of using the prospect’s name, referencing their business, and asking a targeted question. He shares a personal anecdote about a car salesman named Matt who sent a personalized video, which led to repeat sales, illustrating the power of video for building trust. The talk then lists practical tools (iPhone, Loom, screen‑capture apps) and best practices for creating authentic, low‑effort videos that feel like a “virtual sales letter.” Darren claims that such videos dramatically increase response rates and conversion compared to plain email, and he encourages viewers to try the method, attend the May 31 event, and subscribe for more content.

All right, y'all, today we're going to be talking about how to use video in order to get clients for your business. And that's one thing that we teach here at Howdy Media. That's what we do consulting for. It's how to take these videos that you make on social media that you send to clients. How do you make a video get you a client? And so that's what we're going to be breaking down. I like to separate it into two different sections. Um, we have our video content here, and then it goes into this top section, which is inbound. This inbound idea, it's going to be your inbound video creation, and this is platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. So platforms like this, this is what's called inbound. It's where you're putting out content and people are seeing it and then they're coming to you. So the algorithms are feeding it to the viewer, and then somehow, somewhere along the way, you've caught their attention and they like what they've seen, and you give them a call to action and they take advantage of the call to action and then boom, you have a booked call right there. But it's all about getting in front of as many people as you possibly can who are going to be an ideal client of yours. And so this next one is called outbound, and this is whenever you do cold reachouts, cold DMs, cold emails. We like to— this is for very specific people, very specific leads. And I have an example here down the bottom right. I'm going to play this really quick and then we're going to talk about it. Hey Fallon, hey, this is Darren with Howdy Media. I saw here that you're attending our free social media training event on May 31st and I'm excited to see you there. I just, I wanted to reach out and say hello. First of all, I'm excited to see you. Second of all, What is the biggest thing— I'm asking a few of you guys this— what is the biggest thing in your business or with social media that you struggle with? Or what is the one thing that if you had an answer to, that it seems like all of your problems would go away? If I had a magic wand and made something disappear and fix something in your social media or content strategy, what would that thing be? And so I'm just trying to provide as much value as I can to everybody. Anyways, you get the point. but this is an outbound video that I created to one of the people attending one of our, uh, free social media courses here in town and online, which by the way, link is going to be in the description if you want to attend the next one on May 31st. Um, this is, I think this is forgotten about heavily. The outbound is honestly, it can be more powerful than the inbound approach. Because people, and every single person that has responded to me, first of all, they do respond because I'm intentionally saying their name. It's more personable. This is an example that I like to use. About 2 years ago, me and my wife had to buy a car. And so what did we do? We, I think we called the dealership, asked a question about a specific car, and we ended up getting a certain salesman named Matt. And this guy immediately, as soon as we got off the phone, sends us a video using our names saying, hey, Katie and Darren, thanks for reaching out today. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'm looking forward to seeing you today at XYZ. And the simple fact that he took the time out of his day to send that specific video is the reason that we've went to him 2 more times to buy 2 other cars since then. And no other car salesman has done that before for us. And every time that we talk about buying a car, Katie's like, let's just call Matt. Like, and every time she brings it up, I'm like, how do you remember his name? She's like, oh, he, I mean, he just stuck out. I just remember him because he sent us a video. He was personable. He acted like we were human beings. And so this video here, the response was like a whole paragraph, and which is great. I'm looking for a response and a connection. And for this specific event, it's like creating a personal touch. I don't know this person like personally, but I wanted to make it feel like I know them. And the power of this is huge because whenever some— if you get a random iMessage video, usually that's very intentional and only friends do that to each other. But if you send one of these things, if you have somebody who is interested in buying a home, if you have somebody who was— is a warm lead for getting— or you going and cutting their grass, if you have a lawn mowing business, send them a quick video using their name and just be like, hey, thanks for booking a call, thanks for booking a showing. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys. You sound like awesome people. Looking forward to it. Boom. And that's it. And that just immediately puts you into a good perspective from their point of view. So yeah, you can do that. You can straight up use your iPhone. You can use a platform like Slack, Zoom. You can use Loom with an L, L-O-O-M, which is what I'm using right now. You can use platforms like this to capture your screen, to make it a little bit more personable, make it feel like you're in the room with them. And so outbound, we have Loom video, iPhone video, but the whole point of this is to stand out. If you can stand out amongst all of the marketing noise and make it feel like you are genuinely interested in that person, you're going to win every time over your competitors because majority of the other companies, they aren't taking the time to do stuff like this. Like, I sent 25 of these videos out earlier and the response is already huge. Like, I don't even know half of them and they send me a voice message back and they're like, hey, like, first of all, thank you for reaching out because I don't know you and It makes it feel a little bit better knowing that you're a real human being like I am. And so connection, authenticity, all of this builds trust, and video is the strongest way to do that. That's why I'm such a big fan of content, such a big fan of making video in general. We've been selling a lot of brand story videos, um, for the video production side of Howdy Media, and people are watching these brand story videos, getting to know the owners of the companies, getting to know the story. People who are genuinely interested in buying their product, they want to know who they're buying from. And so these are two of the main types of videos that you can make as a business owner. And I really wanted to focus hard on this outbound cold reach-out approach. If you're— if you're reaching out to potential clients, use video. Like, it doesn't have to be fancy or anything, but use video. Use a a virtual sales letter. You, you just basically record a video and send it to them instead of sending just an email, because that means you're taking the extra time out of your day to sit down, record the video, use their names, use their business name, pull up their website, pull up whatever it is you're going to be talking about on your computer, and make it personable. That's the whole— if there's nothing else here this whole video, make it personable. And this is going to take you to that next level, that next step in your business, and get you a way higher conversion rate than a simple email would. But that's pretty much it for today, guys. Have you done much outbound reach out with video before? Have you ever heard of this concept? I've been using it for the last couple years, and it has worked tremendously. It's not a new— it's not a new thing. It's just a matter of who's gonna actually take the extra time to do this method, and you're going to see your conversion rates go way up. So thanks for watching, hope this helped, and hit that subscribe button if you haven't already. We'll see you in the next video. Peace.
